Out of the Frank Duffy tomorrow, dose this week and body just not in a position for 10 miles at race pace.

So gonna do a LSR at home at a slow pace and enjoy it instead of be in Dublin looking at my watch wondering why i'm not hitting the pace i want.

    Good luck to all.

Pat, boy will they be disappointed. I thought that all your mileage/pace midweek would have you in Sub 3 group, not TB's gang.

Would you look who it is!
I'm partially deluded Kev but nowhere near enough to attempt sub 3 (yet) - see there's that delusion again!

Just havin' the banter Pat. There's a few of us doin' the 10 mile on Sat. Hopin' to give it a blast.

5 miles @ 41:26; 10 miles @ ~79... (both @ avg HR 170). So what should really be my aim for marathon? MM calc prediction based on my 10m result says 3:41:16 but it sounds a bit crazy to me :)

I guess I'll use the calculator for my training runs and see what happens in half next month.

PS sorry I'm not updating the table anymore... still manage to read the thread, but a bit too busy with all the running and other stuff. I log my runs at http://runkeeper.com/user/meijin/ if anybody's interested ;)

    Hi Ray,

Do we still stick to this even if we missed the LSR this week doing the 10 miler? Is it still slow and easy for the 3 and 4 miles and then planned marathon pace for the midweek run?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

In the Novice 1 plan, it's slow and easy for all runs.
In the Novice 2 plan, some (but not all) of the midweek runs are marathon pace, but there's slightly less mileage in the plan.

If you raced the Frank Duffy over the weekend that was not an easy run, so you'll still need this week's step-back.

    Cool. That sounds good.
Yes 10 miler was tough going. Really enjoyed the buzz about the place though....the sunshine made all the difference :-)

What time should I be aiming for in the Marathon Ray? 73mins for the 10 mile race on Saturday and felt good.

Hi Ray Im at week 12 in my plan HHN2 which is now around 18m I done the Frank Duffy really enjoyed it 01.30 Do you think 18m is to much following last weeks race

If you're at week 12 already you're going to have to add in some extra weeks of training anyway. What if you work back from the marathon, and think about the run you will be doing each weekend?
Let's assume these weeks are fixed
    October 22nd - 8 miles
    October 15th - 14 miles
    October 8th - 20 miles

    If you're running the half-marathon that's 13.1 on September 17th.
And your longest run so far was 16 miles, right?

So you have August 27th, September 3rd, 10th, 24th, October 1st - 5 runs to fill in. You have to run an 18 miler, and probably another run in the 18-20 range before October 8th.

    How about

    August 27th - 14
    September 3rd - 18
    September 10th - 16
    September 17th - half marathon
    24th - 14
    October 1st - 18
    October 8th - 20
    and then taper?

The half-marathon in the middle is a little awkward...

    Fair play house hunter!

    How was the 20 miler?

  • Registered Users Posts: 178 ✭✭househunter

Not so bad. I was pretty tired in the last couple of miles and from the start felt like I didn't have as much energy as usual but it was ok. Felt better during the 18 mile LSR the previous week.
Legs were pretty stiff when I stopped but some stretching and a cold bath soon sorted that out! No pains the next day anyway

I ran Frank Duffy in 92.12, knocking 6 mins of last yrs time, I'm wondering if this was the course change or an i getting stronger??
First time I've ever run a warm up - did about a mile and feel that this helped me run steady from the start and not spend the first 2-3 miles warming up!!

72 sounds about right for the 10, based on your 5 mile time. If you make that time (and a good time in the half, if you're doing it) you could target a faster time in the marathon.

    Hi Ray,
I ran 72min 9secs on Sat 10 Mile. Plan to do Half in Sept. Do you think 3.40 is realistic for DCM?

This is the rest of my planned training for the marathon....
Should i be doing 14 LSR this weekend or step back, the last 3 weeks totals have been 21m, 24m, 24m so should i be increasing it??

    Any advice greatly received.

If you're at week 12 already you're going to have to add in some extra weeks of training anyway. What if you work back from the marathon, and think about the run you will be doing each weekend?
Let's assume these weeks are fixed
    October 22nd - 8 miles
    October 15th - 14 miles
    October 8th - 20 miles

    If you're running the half-marathon that's 13.1 on September 17th.
And your longest run so far was 16 miles, right?

So you have August 27th, September 3rd, 10th, 24th, October 1st - 5 runs to fill in. You have to run an 18 miler, and probably another run in the 18-20 range before October 8th.

    How about

    August 27th - 14
    September 3rd - 18
    September 10th - 16
    September 17th - half marathon
    24th - 14
    October 1st - 18
    October 8th - 20
    and then taper?

The half-marathon in the middle is a little awkward...

    Hi ray
I am in a similar situation to james. But i was hoping to maybe get two 20 milers in. I was going to do 18 this Saturday. Since i started the plan quite afew weeks in advance i should be doing a 20 miler the Saturday before the half. Is this wise especially if i want to give the half a good shot or is it ok to do the 20 and just do shorter runs the week of the half. Thanks for all advice so far.

Yes it is realistic and if your training goes well and you may go close to 3:30 but use 3:40 as the base for training paces for the moment.
