Could someone please help me in understanding the processor
''Intel Core i7-2617M Processor (1.5GHz up to SC 2.6GHz, 4MB L3, 1333MHz DDR3)'' mainly the ''up to'' part.

any recommendations for other ultraportable laptops, or add-ons you think i might need would be appreciated

i dont play games, and i never use my existing dvd drive so id be happy with an external. mainly want it for college, to fit easily in my bag and for after college when i finish (going into final year civil engineering)

for all i know, this could be a stupid question, thanks for your patience

Just a side note - do not buy these from the States unless you wanna get hit with some pretty heavy tax and vat

Secondly - the "up to 2.6" is just the turbo boost feature - these are good ultraportables, nice processors, one is slightly faster than the other, you won't notice the diff between the processors, not even an expert would.

    However they are very expensive
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=thinkpad+220&x=0&y=0

I would recommend something like this
    http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/ASUS_UL30AX32A_1079073.html
one third of the price - up to 8 hour battery, 13.3 inch screen - not as "lightning" fast as x220, but will do word docs, browsers, music, films, just as fast, if thats all you will be using this for then there's no point getting an overly expensive ultraportable, its like getting a supped up hyper powerful car just to nip up and down to the shops in

However if you are doing something very intensive, heavy apps, then maybe invest in the x220

sorry i forgot to check this again , thought nobody would reply ,

regarding getting it in the states , i can bring it back on a plane by hand (of course i will declare it with customs) i can also buy it for a company , so i can claim the vat back from it

i just want it to last and not be out dated soon, i hear that ASUS build quality is pretty poor ?
