Africa's resources & the rise of a new Cold War

Al Jazeera has put up an opinion piece that I found rather interesting and informative, it's about the struggle for Africa. It covers both American and Chinese interest in Africa's resources, and how (unfortunately) China is making Africa a better deal than the United States is. It's kind of long, but I think it's worth a read.

I'm in the middle of reading the McKinsey report on the progress and investment potential in African economies

I am surprised to learn that Africa has 60% of the world's arable, uncultivated lands, and that a mere 24% of African GDP comes from natural resources. I would have out that figure much higher, if I were guessing, at perhaps double, or even higher.
