Can you get bike to work scheme? It really is an unbelievable saving.

Also, are you dead set on a road bike? You can get some pretty decent hybrids now. Some of them are more like a road bike with flat handlebars than a hybrid.

Also, have heard bad things about Halfords / Halfords bikes.

    Hi Budgemook,

Thanks for your reply. I'm not eligible for the bike 2 work scheme so that's why I'm trying to keep my cost down. I am set on a road bike though so any advice on this bike or any others that would be recommended would be great.

You should probably consider a second hand bike. For the same money you could get a very decent second hand bike on here or adverts.ie.

Best advice I could give you is that if that bike is an indication of your budget, then have a look around for a second had one. There's seriously great value to be had in them if you're patient. Also, that particular bike is bad. Even when Halfords were selling it before for something in the €300's I would have said this. It's very heavy, and stands a good chance of being badly assembled by the staff in Halfords. This is speaking from experience after a cousin of mine in a hurry to get a bike bought one, and I had a look at it.

    Its 10.9 kilos assembled.
In my book that's not too heavy !
A lot of aluminium bikes which cost maybe 3 times as much as this come in around 9 kilos.

Someone who bought this bike (for way less than the current price) had the following comment
