Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

EU researchers seeking riders views

As part of the 2BeSafe project, some EU researchers are seeking the views of riders via an online survey.

    Info here: http://www.magireland.org/2011/slider/eu-seeks-riders-views/

The point about MAG having reservations is a good one, and some in the riders rights community have openly cast doubt on the legitimacy of the survey due to previous comments made by the 2BeSafe consortium. Some of the questions are phrased in a manner which makes it look like they've already made up their minds, but there is a "no comment" option in most cases.

    The survey is here: https://www.soscisurvey.de/2BeSafe_en/

The whole survey reads as if they're trying to justify bringing in compulsory 'driver aides'. They'll roll out the results if they ever decide to bring them in claiming bikers support them.

There'll be war before I let them stick some of those life endangering 'aides' on my bike.

And since when is Harley-Davidson a class of motorcycle?

yup...looks like that...if they are successful I wonder will they try to make it compulsory on bikes that did not have these aides on at the date of production and start a whole retrofit moneyspinner too?

I can see plenty of situations where I want full control and could be endangered by those aides input all right

I can see some where they might be useful also...would just rather it was optional and not the usual fcuking nanny state bull**** the stats and clipboard warriors engage in as they try to sanitize life in to one long bland grey existence.......let the fcukin chips fall where they may and accept the negative consequences...as long as the person that takes the risk is then let pay the price and no one else has to pay for their choices.

LOL, survey fail! The correct classification should also have included BMW. And then ignored those submissions :)

Just give RoR-perfect answers and you'll skew the survey nicely. We'll all be saints.

LOL on the H-D thing, though :)

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

It all a bit suspect alright, but the HD thing nicely illustrates the level of ignorance we're facing from the bureaucrats in the EU.

Those driving aids apart from the traction control and ABS sound like a complete disaster!

they'll love my answers... where's that angel smiley

The survey was slightly flawed in that while it asked your opinion on agreeing or disagreeing with driver aides, it didn't focus on the problem that those aides are trying to overcome.

What I mean is, ABS for example is all well and good for handling unexpected dangerous circumstances that require immediate stopping, but why did you get into that situation in the first place? This is a fundamental of Advanced Driving - you teach people how to ride properly, and then they make use of those fundamentals combined with the equipment on the machine at the time. Driver aides for beginners starting out (eg the gravel anti skid) is stupid - and don't get me started on the lane and distance assist - if a beginner needs that to figure out how to brake/accelerate in traffic they might as well give up on driving anything.
