    Hi,

This has probably been asked at some stage but can't find it if it is.

Is it possible to get the video files from one of UPC's box's onto a hard drive?

    Cheers

No, the recordings are encrypted with the same nagravison 3 encryption as the channels are broadcast.

The only way is to hook up a VCR or video capture device and play them back in realtime and record.

I ought to make a sticky or FAQ or something with this information in it.

The way the poster below describes is the only way to do it without cracking Nagravision **which you cannot discuss here**.

Even then, you're strictly speaking breaking copyright law.

There's no "re-encryption" at all going on - the box just copies the entire stream to disk. Then it's read from disk and decrypted by the box using the viewing card, just as if it came off the air.

(That's why if you fail to pay your subscription, you lose access to your recordings as well as to live TV.)
