Yes and no really the head office of Gamestop using the term trader to describe anyone trying to maximise the advantage they get from their offers as if they are indeed doing something terrible or wrong like robbing the shop

How do you know that it was head office that made reference to your actions as a 'Trader'?

i for one found the staff in stephens green sound enough and were interested. Have to say the staff in game in dawson street are all really helpful to, shame i rarely buy anything and always just browse.

Anyway, DK, the 2 gamestops i went into werent accepting the trade on preorders,. I think brink and la noire where on the poster, but i thought they werent part of the deal.

On the one hand the manner of addressing you not sound, but they probably have themself well covered legally for exchanges on special offers and are within their rights unless its faulty.
In general Gamestop staff are all sound but to kick your bread and butter customers is very bad for the company!!
They were looking for the trades for the new stores they were opening like balbriggan they have now lost a very loyal new release day customer!!

Ah well hmv are always cheaper anyways

    Reminds me of this fiasco...

So many people got PS3s for €150 and Gamestop suddenly received an influx of Imagine! games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,287 ✭✭✭✭DARK-KNIGHT

    Much clearer now.
It does seem odd that they would stop you swapping the game that they gave you as part of the deal, for a preorder of a game in the same offer.

Although it does boggle the mind why you would get a second copy of a game that you had already bought online.

I just traded the 3 games and got the latest release then said I would swap it! For brink!

I then ripped packaging off the game went back into shop and felt like a ****in criminal trading the game back in!

They made reference to anyone looking to change deal swapping games etc as a supposed TRADER I'm honestly disgusted tbh!

It does seem rather unneccesary to have approached it they way they did. You were gaining no benefit. It was the same deal. You were just changing your mind. As far as I can tell, you weren't trying to game the system.
    Was he?

You can always email them, to let them know how you feel.

I would imagine that the term 'Trader' refers to people who were trying to game the system into giving them something that was not part of the offer. As in, say a preorder for a game not on the list or months away from release. Which you dont appear to be trying to do.

i dont get it? why would they be angry about trading in when its part of their daily business? why would they get angry of you taking advantage of an offer of trading in 3 games when its part of an advertised offer in their stores?

They have again changed the smallprint that none of us can ever read.

Yes I'm aware what the word trader means!

The manager in tallaght told me the head office are using the word trader to describe someone that is basically screwing the system and they are referring to boards saying they are monitoring the site to see what way people are abusing the offers they put in place

was in gamestop and tried to return an unopened copy of mortal kombat that i got in the trade 3 games and pay 3 euro deal for a preorder of brink instead. guy was VERY RUDE behind the counter and started ranting calling me a TRADER???? FFS how sad is it when gamestop head office brand their customers as traders and put a negative vibe with the staff and management to anyone taking advantage of the offers that THEY put in place?

manager of the store told me gamestop copped on to guys on boards and have been monitoring boards for the last week to try and eliminate us boards users taking advantage of gamestop..

same manager told me he is a mod here???? when i asked his username he refused to tell me point blank so i dont believe him that he is a mod here. dont get me wrong he is dead sound really nice guy and this isnt an attack on gamestop staff its only head office im getting thick with.

obviously gamestop put the offers in place trade 3 games and 3 euro for a new release to get stock levels higher for new stores they are opening, not to do us any favours..

tbh when it came to buying or trading in a shop i would always have used gamestop but now when my preorders are collected ill be shopping elsewhere as i was so embarrassed having been called aside instore and being talked to like i was some sort of evil criminal it was so embarrassing when other customers stared at me as the assistant manager had a head on him and was so blunt saying we will give you value of 3 games back nothing else etc!!!

SO NOW GAMESTOP IF YOUR LOOKING THROUGH BOARDS READ THIS YOU ARE A TERRIBLE COMPANY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF US GAMERS AND I HOPE THIS HIGHLIGHTS WHAT YOU ARE REALLY LIKE!!!!!!!

please discuss guys if this has happened you?

    thanks,

    D-K

You're a TRADER, and I hope you get everything you deserve!!!112!!

but werent you screwing the system? didnt you buy mortal kombat on play.com and try to give it back to gamestop?

also, did yer man just randomly bring up boards or did you mention it? seems a bizarre thing for a bloke to come out and say for no reason

Look at my gamertag I have not played mk yet!!

And it doesn't matter what I was doing as even if I was I would have been breaking no laws!

Remember a manager lied saying he is a mod here then he tells me his company are spying on boards users here and then coming up with names for us and saying we are borderline breaking laws

ripped off the packaging you say? Thats your first mistake then im afraid, as far as theyre concerned its then a used game if original packaging is removed. Read the terms on the receipt, items return in ORIGINAL condition, though as i said the attitude stunk, they are perfectly entitled to tell you no trade possible.

Im gonna check em out again and see if it includes preorders as i thought it didnt
Every game I've bought from gamestop NEW has come unwrapped.

No game was in original packaging and was refused by manager saying head office said we can't take this back even if it is sealed something to do with the 3 for 1 deal like! I said so basically u won't swap the game even though it's sealed and I gave my receipt!

He said IF you come back another day I'll trade it in for trade in price and no matter what happened he would not suit me at all I had a choice of my 3 games back or keep that game no other choices and no discussions!!!!

I lost it walked outside shop took packaging off the game nicked the dlc and traded the game for 32 euro plus 25 percent extra credit against brink!!

The game was sealed with receipt in same bag as I collected it from the store release day

    So, in summary...

You were abusing the trade-in offer.
You were caught abusing the trade in offer.
You took offence to being called a trader, a term gamestop have come up with for people abusing the offer.
And you were so mortified by being caught out that you deemed it necessary to start a thread on boards denouncing the evils of Gamestop.

    ....

    Right.

If Brink is on the deal could you not just take your 3 games back and then use them to get Brink?

I am never going to buy from gamestop again after they told me that game ratings fall under the same law as movies and alcohol. Thank god for amazon.co.uk :)

    Right.
If Gamestop wants to leave themselves open to the abuse, that's their fault. Someone will always take advantage.

Like other posters have said, if they are going to value a trade-in of Hello Kitty Island Adventure (New) for $30 store credit, and HMV is across the street selling Hello Kitty Island Adventure (New) for $15, you can bet your ass someone is going to walk in to HMV, deliver the product to Gamestop, and net $15 (in store credit) for the product. That's business. You've just taken the Time, to perform a Stocking Service for Gamestop, and gotten paid for it. It's Their Fault if they have an open door policy that says they will take every copy of Hello Kitty Island Adventure they can get their mitts on for $30 store credit. Just like it's my fault if I buy Hello Kitty Island Adventure for $45 retail at Gamestop instead of buying it for $15 at HMV.

Gamestop is a big company that requires no sympathy here. They are usually smart about how little value they put on a trade-in to avoid this kind of worthless product-pushing but it's their own fault if they leave themselves open to it. Treat the Mortal Kombat like you see it, grin and bear it, and whine to your corporate bosses, don't complain to your customers about your Boss's loophole.

What are the numbers on that anyway? They got 3 used games off you basically and you got Mortal Kombat. You changed your mind and got Brink. Big ****ing deal? Was that worth pissing off a customer who would otherwise come in and buy hudnreds of euro of other products throughout the year? I work in retail. If I spend half an hour helping a guy with a $50 something and give him the time and respect, he's probably coming back in a couple months to buy a new computer. If I brush them off or treat someone as insignificant because they have a question about $10 worth of screen wipes how do I know they aren't also going to follow up and ask me about spending $5000 on a new TV? If I piss them off, they're going across the street. Similarly why nickname your customer ("grazer" "trader" doesnt matter) and throw away good business? You don't know, he could have come back tomorrow wanting a kinect bundle and 5 games. Instead, he's not coming back now; he's on boards giving you, your store, and your company Bad word of mouth. GG n00b.

I would never Pre Order and trade in anything.

You would get 50 cent for a game you paid 50 euro for it the day before.

I'm joking about the 50cent but you get my meaning

As for preordering games the store you are getting it off is making a killing in Interest for length of time till the game comes out so I would never to pre order.

And talking about why I would never deal with game stop much is because call of duty 2 on the x box 360 is the best game ever and I rang around all the stores one said city centre has it so went in and they said we have it he went in the back and heard another member of staff in the back with him say don't give that out and your man comes out and says oh the disc is very scratched.

Sometimes their offers are taken advantage of, i remember the 30 euro for your old games deal they ran had people travelling all over the town picking up games for a tenner and trading them for 30 making 20 euro profit. Even buying up a number of the same game.

I remember when that deal was on. I got €30 for trading in Crash of the Titans on PSP. The guy behind the till was amazed at how much was being offered for such a crappy game.

I was also in Harvey Norman that same week and there was a man, with the full list of gamestop €30 trade ins, rummaging through the basket of €9,99 games. he found a good few

I have to agree with overheal, its business at the end of the day. If Gamespot dont care to take the time to iron out the flaws of there offer then thats their fault and the public have the right to exploit it. No one is doing anything wrong and in fact i think its bad form on Gamespot to go pointing fingers at people who are wise enough to take advantage. I dislike Gamespot, iv rarely come across staff that were knowledgeable or friendly. Just college students looking to earn a few quid. Not my idea of how a video game store should be run. Dont get me wrong im sure there are branches that have great staff but iv yet to find one.
