Help your fellow gamers (fixes thread)

Anyone here like to play older games on a new system or just games that are unstable? Do you need or have found a fix for unstable and buggy games? Getting these games to work can be a pain, so I've decided to try and gather fixes for them to help other players. If you don't want to hear my story skip the next paragraph.


After I bought Commandos on Steam I discovered to my horror that it was horrendously buggy. I couldn't save or load, the sound wasn't working and the game speed was fastforwarded to a point where it was almost impossible to play. I was not the only one with these issues and thankfully someone going by the name of Doc. Garga was able to put together some files that fixed the issues and posted them on the Steam forums. I downloaded them and later on another forum ran into a guy with the same issues and passed on the fix. That's when I had this idea.


Here is a link (As you can see I don't know any HTML, sorry) to a page with the following items:

• DXWnd - A programme that allows you to run full-screen only games in a window (I use it to play Oddworld)
• Hamachi - Allows you to set up a virtual LAN network over the internet (can be useful for certain multiplayer situations)
• A fan-patch for the Steam version of Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
• A fan-patch to disable GFWL in Grand Theft Auto 4
• File that allows you to play Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 easily over LAN on modern machines.
• Unofficial patch for Command & Conquer: The First Decade
• Adds missing cutscenes form Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun: Firestorm
• Adds briefing FMVs from the Playstation port of Command & Conquer: Red Alert: Aftermath and Counterstrike.

Please, if you play any games and have similar fan-patches post them and I'll add them.

Also if anyone knows any HTML can you just give me a template to use that I can paste the links into so it won't look so utterly dreadful. Thank you.

You know I decided to do this because I found that these sorts of things can be obscure and hard to find and I found Google to be much less helpful than something I just stumbled onto on the Steam forum for Commandos (well, I say stumbled on to I was going there to look for a fix, but Google didn't work so well for me is the point).

For instance Eidos' official solution to the speed issue in Commandos is to download a programme to emulate a less powerful CPU to slow down the game which is entirely unnecessary!

Hamachi works with most old games that dont work online anymore and require a LAN option.

Can be a pain in the arse to set it up sometimes but it does work.
