Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've heard conflicting reports about the safety and effectiveness of using registry cleaners.

Would CCleaner be ok to use? The warnings i've heard is that they can delete files that could be essential the operating system. Is there any truth in this or would this program be advanced enough that this wouldn't be a concern?

I've never had a problem running ccleaner on default settings for a registry clean.

i've never used the free versions myself, i use this
    http://www.winferno.com/guides/software/registry/1/fix-registry/

as my Mcafee antivirus package recommended it, and it dooes the business, really sped up my PC first time i ran it. The CCLeaner looks good too, CNET users have all given it great reviews:

Seeing this thread prompted me to run CCLeaner 2.14 the programme informed me of a
more recent version and took me to the website http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner where it asked me for 20 dollars for "priority support" home version. The free links are underneath so just be careful :)

CCleaner is as far as I'd go on registry cleaning, it doesn't go too deep like other programs

I used to use it quite regularly until i read somewhere on techguyforums that they weren't a good idea, for the reasons mentioned in the OP.

I think i'll start using it again though. A scan i did there found over 400 objects.

    +1

TBH though, unless you're actually having some REAL registry problems, I don't think you need to worry about these type of appz OP.

CCleaner is a nice tool though, for other things like clearing up your temp files etc.
You can probably just ignore the registry feature though as the benefit is negligible.

Perhaps if you're running it every day. If it's run on a 3 or 4 year old system for the first time you will notice a difference.
