Jim McCann. Meself and the brother ended up on an unmerciful bender with him and his soundman (no pun intended) one Tuesday morning in a pub that could seat over 100 people and we were the only four people there.

Had no idea who he was. It wasn't until after four pints, when I tried to start a ballad session, that me brother dragged me aside, and explained to me why they were laughing, when i asked them did they know the words to Raglan Road?:o

    Coolest guy in the world. And funny as fcuk. We all got burgers as a bit of soakage at lunchtime, which I thought were quite nice;

Jim McCann (taking a huge bite): " I wouldn't give that to my dog"

Me (enjoying a huge bite): "Why not?"

Jim McCann: "To spite him." (Takes another huge bite with relish).

    Coolest man ever.

My seven-year-old nephew Tiarnán. Last winter when the roads were really icy I skidded the car and he was in the back with his three (younger) first cousins. They started crying one after the other and Tiarnán turned around and calmed them down by distracting them by playing games and singing while I tried to get the car out of the ice. This went on for a good 20 minutes. When we got home and they were out of sight he burst out crying to me. My hero!

Wow. After a post like that, is it alright for me to confess that I thought my bro was even cooler than Jim McCann?

"And still they gaz'd and still the wonder grew, That one small head could carry all he knew. "

hehe. You'll just have to work harder to catch him out and then give him an awful time. Ask him what country objected to Ireland joining the United Nations and thus delayed our entry until 1955. My old history teacher, who was easily the coolest in the school, was caught out on that. (the USSR objected)

With his enigmatic, haiku-like contributions, I think Mtb is angling for a 'Most Cool' nomination himself...

Its funny how the coolest people most posters have met also are famous!.

I'am not saying that these famous people weren't cool, but I myself prefer when you just happen to meet some ordinary randomer who has that magnetic personality that radiates coolness effortlessly.

It doesn't happen very often, but on meeting such characters I always fail to put a finger on what makes them so appealing.
They just have it. And if you could bottle it......

Brianstorm by the Arctic Monkeys describes meeting such a person.

working as a door boy in Manhattan a good few years back this guy got out of a limo and asked me to bring his bags up to a apartment, when I arrived back down in the lobby he was standing around with 7 or 8 other guys all dressed in suits looking pretty dodgy but I didn't think anything of it at the time, they were chatting away having a laugh with the receptionist, when the main guy turned to me and started chatting, he cracked a few jokes and he was asking me about Ireland and what I thaught of working in New York, he left telling me his name was Nicky and gave me a 200 dollar tip for brining his bags up.

I later asked the receptionist who he was and it turns out he was Nicholas Corozzo apparently just out of prison and head of the Gambino Crime Family, one of the main mafia families of New York cool guy

So who's the coolest person you know personally / have met? (Doesn't have to be anyone famous or anything)

    Has to be my girlfriend.
From the getgo she was sound and still is. Down to earth, funny and caring.

    What more would you want?
