Are you talking a filling or a crown, a cap is one of these ambiguous patient terms that is used for both.

Is aesthetics a top concern, whats affordable for you at the specification you want?

Not being smart but you could go to a dentist that will give you a crown for 400 euro (total POS) or one that will do a filling for 400 euro the quality will vary drastically.

Hey, sorry - crown is what I'm looking for - actually got crown work before - but the dentist botched it so I'm very wary about seeing a competent dentist - and I'm also out of work right now

    thanks

If you already had a crown placed, then you will almost certainly need it replaced with another crown. Replacing a crown on a single front tooth, and having it look natural is one of the toughest challenges in dentistry. To get a really nice one could cost upwards of €1,000
If however, you had a composite on the tooth (sometimes called bonding, or mistakenly a "cap"), then it may be that you don't need a porcelain crown, but can have a similar, hopefully better, cosmetic composite placed. Expect to pay €200 - €400 for a really good one, depending on complexity

thanks for the reply - yes, it's a composite

That's good news - it's probably going to be cheaper, more conservative and tends to keep your options open if you don't necessarily have to crown it.
If you do a little research, you should have no problem finding a dentist who can get a really good cosmetic result using composite (or sometimes called bonding).
Some clinics have websites with before and after pictures of composite bonding cases if you want to see what is possible.
    Best of luck!

    Hi,

Has anyone had restorative cosmetic surgery done such as bridgework, implants and crowns with a dentist which they feel they could recommend.I require a lot of restorative treatment and am struggling to find a dentist with which I would be confident enough in to provide a satisfactory service,as I have discovered my costs are running extremely high and am therefore very anxious as the above work will be a huge investment for me.Therefore any advice or recommendation would be much appreciated. Thanks!:)

I had my two front teeth crowned and a cosmetic filling done by a cosmetic dentist in Dublin in 2000 and he did a fantastic job. No problems with them since. It cost about 4000 pounds at the time ( way more than if a normal dentist had done it ) but was worth every penny. He was recommended by the orthodontist who felt that cosmetic crowns would give a better result than braces etc.
The quality of the work has been commented on by several other dentists that I've been to since. Transformed my teeth in one go. And he was very nice too.
PM me if you'd like the name.

A dentist who specializes in complex cosmetic dental work is called a prosthodontist. There is no such things as a specialist in cosmetic dentistry, membership of cosmetic dentistry organizations means nothing. There are about 20-30 prothodontists in ireland.

Thanks Fitzgeme. The person I saw was/is a prosthodontist. I've googled him and he is listed as a prosthodontist in a journal article in the Irish Dental Journal. I didn't know the exact term.
He didn't do any 'normal' dental work at all only speciality work in cosmetic dentistry and reconstruction (with the oral surgeon). I was referred to him for an appointment by my orthodontist. It's why he was so expensive, at the time he was one of only a handful in the country.
Again worth every penny. Wonderful wonderful job!
