Apologies if i shouldnt have started a new thread for this but im a newbie.
I have sky hd in my house but have seen a free to air box in my local hardware store. So my questions are.....
    1) Can i connect the fta box to the sky dish or is it encrypted?
    2) If im in wicklow will i be able to pick up many channels? (i would like to be able to pick up channel 5)
    3) Is there an easier way to get as many fta channels as possible that i can record (ala sky+)?

    Thanks for any help

    1) You should have a quad or octo LNB on the dish, so all you would need to do is physically run an extra line from said dish/lnb to your new FTA box. Plug and play, no encryption.

    2) AFAIK, there are no real geographical restrictions when it comes to FTA reception. You'll be able to pick up the same FTA channels as the rest of us, down in Wicklow.
    Regarding Channel 5, see below

    3) There are loads of options here, but the main issue is price.

To get something similar to SKY+, for FTA, this kit would be the ideal
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Humax-FOXSAT-HDR-Freesat-Digital-Recorder/dp/B001L5YU36
That would include channel5 on the EPG

The cheaper option would be something like this
    http://www.tvtrade.ie/xoro-3000-satellite-receiver.html
You would have FIVE too, but there would be no great tv guide on it.
Also, you would need a USB flash drive, or external HDD, for SKY+ features.

Can't be done on a SKY box in ROI, I'm afraid

It can be done however on a stand alone FTA box, which has PVR features.
