hi all. anybody able to put a price on a mint condition £5 provincial bank of ireland 1939 note? also two £1 ploughman notes (not quiet mint but good) 1929 and 1938. i know its difficult without a picture but i,m just looking for an idea. cheers

you would need photos of them as your idea of mint and a collectors opinion will differ enormously.

Nothing of value there in the Irish coins and I doubt the Irish notes are worth much more than face value unless they're mint UNC.

    Thanks for that reply.

Just came across them earlier when clearing out stuff so just wondered.

The 1969 half dollar has a silver content of a 40% so worth about €3. the notes if unc prob worth about €10 and €35 if not about €30 combined. The rest of no value im afraid.

Is it worth holding on to notes for another few years? I have a 100 punt note and was offered 400 for it. Would it increase in value much if I held onto it and left it to my son say in 50 years. I know this is utter speculation btw.

The value of most notes and coins have not kept up with inflation over the last 40 or 50 years. When you look back on them and their spending power at the time compared to their value now, you'll see they haven't really gone up that much in value. I don't have exact figures but I remember someone looking into the value of the Pearse silver ten shilling coins which are worth around 20 Euro now. Apparently 10 shillings back then in 1966 would have bought you more than 20 Euro today.

However there are other things to consider, unless you're actually going to invest that 400 Euro for your son in something that's more likely to keep up with inflation like property, then you may as well hang on to it as another form of investment (not keeping all your eggs in one basket and all that...). Certainly a better investment than leaving 400 Euro in a bank account for him.

Hi everyone I had this jar full of old coins and notes that my mother has collected over the years.. Some are in great shape and some aren't nor have I seen anything like them before here's a list..

    1x USA 1oz fine silver~one dollar from 1990
    1x 1 punt 1990

And an array of old pounds, pence and a
'Cobh heritage centre Hibernia collection limited edition coin..

I probably just have an array of coins that are worth more for throwing but still it's nice to know..

There's also a few old notes.. Sorry for the poor picture if you want a picture of one on its own just let me know ..

Seanf999 I don't see anything there worth any more than it's face value, except you have that silver US coin, so whatever that's worth at today's rate, you can look that coin up on ebay to see what it's worth.

What would be the value of these 50 pence coins today? Also what is the value of the old year 2000 punt coins with the dear on them?

Hi there I've two full sets of Irish coins, my dad framed them years ago and they have been in frames since.

Both sets are in great shape and full complete sets.

The first set is all year 2000 coins which has also the millenium pound,

The second set is the older coins from 1900-1978,

Out of curiosity I'd love to know if it's possible to get them valued ? Or where could this be done ??

    Thanks a lot
