Sata PCI Express controller card

    Hi all ,

    I need to add some sata ports to my media pc , as all 6 on the motherboard are in use ( 5 hard drives and a BluRay drive )

    I found an Asrock card on Pixmania for 18 Euros plus postage .

    Pixmania Link , Asrock link . It has 3 ports , but only two can be used at the same time .

    I don't want / need Raid , just the ability to add some more storage drives .

    Will this card be pretty much just plug and play ?


    Whatever card I buy must be PCI Express , minimum 2 ports , preferably 4 .

    There is also this 4 port card on Ebay - link , any good ? Can all 4 ports be used at the same time ?

    Does anybody know of any reasonably priced 4 port cards ?

    Hopefully under 35 Euros including postage .

    Bump ,

    Is the asrock card suitable for my needs ?

    Plug and play , just for storage drives , ?

    Raid is not needed .

    Anybody ??

    Well ,

    The Sata card arrived yesterday morning from Pixmania ( the ASRock one )

    It was picked up in the bios , and when I booted into Windows ( Win 7 x64 ) the drivers were automatically downloaded .

    No problems so far , using it in a GigaByte motherboard .

    I just had to modify the boot order , as it was trying to boot from an empty drive ( the new storage drive I attached to the sata card ) .

    quick question? is there any difference in performance running it this way rather than through normal sata ports

    Hi ,

    I'm just using it to attach more storage drives , so I doubt I'll notice any difference .

    The SATA ports on my motherboard are all SATA 2, and if I ever upgrade my OS drive to a SATA 3 SSD or a SATA 3 hard drive , I'll connect it to the new sata card .

    It's a SATA 3 card and according to the specs it's
    "up to 6.0 Gb/s data transfer rate "

    SATA 2 is "up to 3.0 Gb/s data transfer rate "
