Our personal computer (three years old) is in trouble - it started with firewall and antivirus being uninstalled mysteriously, we tried to reinstall, then computer wouldn't turn on, it will start in safe mode.....now It won't connect to the internet at all. Whether or not it was a coincidence, a friend was using a memory stick in it the previous day but says he is sure that it was clean and virus-free.
Has anyone come across this before? We've looked all over the internet but can see no problem or virus like this. We would be very grateful for any input.

Back up all your information, wipe the disk and reinstall windows. Don't waste your time trying to fix it, you will spend weeks at it, and will never be sure you go it all.

    Malware Removal Guide for Windows

I used the help of a tech forum to clean a friends old pc and it took me 10 days.

After ever scan you have to post the results log and wait for further instructions, and on an old pc with a large hard drive each scan can take hours.

Before a reinstall make sure you have your windows product key/office key.
