Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Commodore 64 1531 Datasette problem.

I decided to dust off my old commodore 64 computer and see if I could get it running again. Everything seems to work except the datasette player.

The problem is basically that the cassette player won't "play" or specifically it will play til about 002 on the counter and then just grinds to a halt. The player seems to be mechanically ok as it FF's and RW's tapes from start to finish. Just 'play' it seems to be having problems with.

FYI a couple of weeks ago I got a lend of a game on tape from a 3rd party and it actually loaded the game correctly on this datasette, which has me thinking that maybe the problem is with my actual tapes rather that the datasette. Could this be the case?

The tapes have been stored in an attic an a shed since the early 90's (all inside their plastic cases to avoid dust) so I'd figure that would be good enough to preserve them til even now?

    Any opinions gratefully received.

Get a tape deck cleaner *ebay more like your source* or use wipes, like lcd wipes and give the deck a wipe and let it dry out, could a small case of a dirt on the heads.

Check the condition of the tape itself, since they where stored in attic, fungi could had grown on inside with moist and cold from attice, another test this is to put the tape into a ordinary music tape deck and listen to the signal output quality for any muffled sound *providing your own tape deck is not dirty either!.

If you have an mp3 player and a incar cd adaptor, put that into the tape deck, download and convert the tape programs somewhere and have sure fire load of tapes that way.
