Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

New House, if I have a Satellite dish do I need an aerial.

    Hi all,

    I planning having a HD Satellite dish, to get both Saorview and Free view.

    Question 1: Is this possible?
    Question 2: If I can get both then do I need an aerial?

    Yes you need an aerial,

    depending on where the house is an indoor aerial might do for saorview.

    A combo box may suit you . (some reading up for you )
    as both the satellite and terrestrial signals are on one box.

    Saorview is transmitted to/received by aerials on your roof, just like your old terrestrial channels.

    Saorsat is to be launched later in the year, when I'm sure these same channels will be available via your satellite dish. Until then you need an aerial to get the best range of Irish channels.

    Freeview is the UK equivalent of Saorview, again transmitted to ordinary aerials on the roof. You probably mean Freesat, which is free to air channels transmitted via satellite dishes.

    Try out reception with an indoor aerial first, if it works then you've been saved the bother of putting up a new aerial. Go to http://coverage.rtenl.ie/index.php, enter your address and move the pointer to your house. Then have the indoor aerial facing out a window in the direction of the transmitter that the coverage map suggests.

    You can use any digital terrestrial device like a flatscreen TV with a freeview tuner (i.e. DVB-T) to see if there is a signal or not. It won't display picture but the radio channels will work fine if you've reception.
