UTV BB: 8Mb NGB cheaper than 3Mb Clicksilver

I see UTV prices for their Next Generation Broadband are way less than their traditional Clicksilver product. For example, the regular 1Mb Clicksilver One (with 6GB limit) is €16.99 ... the same price as 8Mb NBG 20GB.

    Clicksilver (the default) - http://www.utvinternet.com/broadband

NGB (if you spot the link) - http://www.utvinternet.com/broadband/ngb.aspx

Any ideas why this is? Is there a catch somewhere?

I see some posts here from 2010 from people having problems with NGB. Are folk fairly happy with this offering from UTV now?

Usage. The cheapest NGB packages tend to have a lower limit than the older, conventional 3 mbps speed.

But the NGB packages for the same price as the older 3 mbps packages will have the same usage allowance but with up to 8 mbps speed.

That is based on what I've found with eircom anyway.

With UTV, they must have decided that people want a higher usage allowance so they've increased that in tandem with the NGB upgrades to encourage people to sign up to UTV etc.

I don't think you have a choice between the older and the NGB packages, if your exchange has "NGB" then you have to take one of those packages otherwise you're stuck with the conventional 1, 3 or 7 mbps speeds.

I was offered this NGB on the door-step yesterday; sounds similar to the one you mention:
    8mb un-congested
    20gb limit
    line rental
free UK/IRL calls in the evenings and w/e's

    €38

sounds like a decent offer. I currently pay imagine €38 for 1mb + line rental but no free calls

EDIT: did some googling, and sure enough heres the offer:

Imagine are only pushing the WiMax these days, and Ericom have NGB for €46 (same package as UTV)

UTV's download caps are useless comapred to other proivders and are very dear service to be with.

The connection is very good with them tough i've never had any problems but still the download caps are lame.

I tend to agree, although 20gb would be tonnes for me.

As a Vodafone bill-pay customer, I discovered this afternoon they have the same package discounted to €38 pm, but with the addition of free calls to Voda mobiles and a 40gb download limit. Better customer service no doubt too.
