Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Overheating memory stick??
    Hi Guys,

    I really need help here,
I have a Scandisk cruzer 8GB usb memory stick, for about 1.5 years now.
When I inserted it into my laptop, it didnt recognise it nor did any usual light flash on the usb memory stick. Also, it has become severely hot, which makes me think its short circuiting or something.

Im panicing as all my course work is on it together with all my photos, is there anything i can do to recover the data.

For instance take out the 8gb memory and put it into a similar Scandisk usb memory stick??

Anyone that gives me advise that leads to the recovery of the data will get 50 euro!! Thats how bably I need the data.

    Thanks!

    How will these websites work?

The computer won't even recognise the usb memory stick.

Will this website recover all the data on the usb even if I have saved things on different computers over many months ago?

Ok lets go back to the start. Have you tried the device on different ports on your pc or in another pc?

    Thanks,

But, it seems it wont work as the device itself isnt working.
There is nothing wrong with the computer as Ive tried it with other computers and also tried with a different usb and it worked.

I think the solution below may help you get the data back from your memory stick...

I have come up against this myself before and posted the solution sometime ago..

Anyhoo, to get the data off your hard drive download the software 'partition find and mount' from the link http://findandmount.com/download/

What this will do is present the data of the hard drive to the pc after you run a scan using the software.
After running the scan from the software double click the hard drive it has picked up, then give it a drive letter. You should be able to see the data when the hard drive is presented to the pc via the drive letter you have assigned. Copy the data to a new location on your pc hard drive (normally c:\). If you do it in chunks it will be faster to copy over.

After this is done you will need to format the external hard drive which will wipe it clean. As is now your external hard drive is corrupt so you will need to do this for it to be usable again.

After the data is copied over disconnect the external hard drive and reconnet as normal. Where the harddrive shows up in 'My Computer' right click on the drive letter and select format. BE CAREFUL in doing this. Make sure you have all your data from the hard drive before doing this.

    Hope this helps. Good luck

P.s. If it works you can make the donation to the national choldrens hospital.

    Hey Op
Take a look at this, it may be of some help.
    http://youtu.be/djyNUK0r7JM
States pretty clearly that board must be identical to one shown.
The overheating does not sound good though, if you do use the techbique in the vid and do get it connected maybe no harm to have a fan to cool it.
Also might be a good idea to use an unimportant pc, you could easily damage usb ports/ even mboard on laptop plugging this failing drive.
    Anyway
    Good luck
