    Hi All,
Hope this is the right place, if not please redirect me mods!:)
Basically, I'm in 3rd year of a 4 year Building Surveying course. We were asking our lecturers where were last year's students finding employment or were they forced to get on a plane.

The lecturers said that one area was building assessor for insurance. I've had a brief look through some of the bigger insurance companies to see if they had their own specialist area within the company for building assessors, but I haven't really been too successful. I've come across one crowd in Galway that have a team of Quantity surveys within their business.

Are there any building assessors on boards, and if so, is it a specialist area that sub contracted out or can a member of the public get in touch?
Finally, I'm asking all these questions as I am looking for some work experience (in Galway if at all possible!:))while I'm off for the summer months, I think its better to take advantage of getting in the experience while I can.

    Thanks all,
    papa

You should refine your searches to the phrases, Loss Adjuster and Insurance Surveyor.

Loss Adjusters are usually independent firms who assess and settle claims on behalf of an insurer for a fee paid by the insurance company. Insurance Surveyors are people, usually directly employed by the insurer, who inspect a premises that has been placed on cover. The purpose of this is to ensure the risk is what was anticipated when they went on cover and, also, to recommend any measures that may reduce the chance of a claim occurring.

Did you have a look at the Thornton Group website? Here it is: http://www.thorntongroup.ie/
A web presence which consists of a single page! No physical address is given, nor the names of owners/directors... nothing. Thornton Group exhibit all the hallmarks of a dodgy fly-by-night operator.
