Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Interested in radio...?

Hi. Basically thought I'd register on boards as that seems to be where like half the country resides these days.

I'm in 3rd year in secondary (only a kiddo :D) and I've a big interest in radio and I'm sure that's the career path I want to pursue in the future. I'm at that stage now where I have to decide what subjects I'm choosing for the LC.

So can anybody fill me in in what subjects I'd need if I want to go down this route? Also, the points range I'd be aiming at and what sort of courses I'd be looking at doing in college etc.

Is there a way I could possibly inter-twine journalism/English literature with radio presenting? As that's what I really want to do in the future. I'm very determined too.

Feel free to move this thread if it's in the wrong section, thanks.

Outside the core subjects, I don't think any one subject stands out that would give you a particular head start in a career in radio. Certainly, journalism courses don't have specific subject requests other then the points needed.

Having studied journalism myself I would highly recommend it as the course in all colleges are broad and offer a well rounded education from radio production, print, video production, PR, photography, even script writing. These courses can be found in Ballyfermot, DCU and Griffith college to name but a few and I have heard only high praise for all of them.

In terms of points, aim as high as you can so your not disappointed with not getting your first choice. Ball park : 450

I wish you the best of luck
