    Hi folks,

I'm heading to Kilkenny City tomorrow for a bit of a day trip. Apart from the castle, can anyone recommend a few other things to do in the city, or a little outside it (say within 20km of so)?

I'm thinking parks, museums, walks, interesting buildings, that sort of thing.

    Thanks in advance!

dunmore cave, it's a great spot. It's an opw site I think. Should find it easy enough on google, its about 10k outside the city.

Be sure and check out the National Craft Gallery which is in the Castle Yard (behind Kilkenny Design).
Current Exhibition is Irish Craft Portfolio - http://www.ccoi.ie/gallery/exhibition.php?listing_ID=108
Butler House gardens are just behind it too, nice for a wee look...

The Black Abbey (lovely old church) is close enough to Canice's Cathederal & Tower. Mary's Cathederal nearby too and it's one of the defining buildings of Kilkenny for a lot of us (as mentioned in a thread recently enough here...).

Haven't been in Rothe House in years... must check it out soon.

Woodstock in Inistioge is beautiful but time/weather may be a factor.

If you want to stay 'in' the city, the park at the castle is fantastic and be sure to wander outside it down to the river and that's a lovely walk along the riverbank too.

Kells is a nice village and has the ruins of a large monastery on the outskirts. From the ruins you can walk along the river to the old mills. Free aswell.

Go to Canices tower in the city if you stay there. If it is open you can climb to the top and get a great view over kilkenny.
