    Hi all,

I've the pleasure of being in Sligo over the next six weeks mon-wed.

Any suggestions on what to do?

I'm interested in live music, any style. I'll also be driving a bike over. I hear there is some great place to drive to etc.

Even random things like paintball, gyms etc....

    Any help is much appreciated.

    .

    Hi.
I would try 'Lady's Bre' up on the OX Mountains, very scenic drive, you could drive for miles and miles and only meet the ocasional sheep on the road, Horse riding in Markree Stables in Collooney is pretty good and very reasonable, Driving to North Sligo around Mullaghmore and 'Gleniff Horse Shoe' is an experiencein itself. Believe me you will be spoilt for choice.

I prefer to head over from Coolaney, as you are driving towards scenery all the time.

Go to Coolaney village, straight up to the "fork", Keep right there heading past the school/church/Lipsett's Mountain Inn and if you continue on for about a mile or so you'll eventually see a small finger-post sign directing you to the Ladies Brae

    Enjoy :D

Damn it anyway, I want to go up the Brae now, but I'm stuck in stupid Limerick booooo

Other stuff to do- surf lessons and/or seaweed baths in Strandhill, fishing trip from Rosses Point where you can have your catch cooked for you when you get back

    http://www.sligoboatcharters.com/

    Climb Knocknarea and/or Ben Bulben

Bring the bike up to Donegal for a day if so inclined, the drive up to the Slieve League cliffs is breathtaking and only about 90 mins from Sligo

    Visit Yeat's Grave in Drumcliffe

Another nice spin on the bike would be around the Castlebaldwin/Geevagh area, taking in Lough Bo, Lough Arrow, even on to Lough Key and the Forest Park in Boyle

There's a shooting range up there round Lough Bo as well actually

    http://www.dochara.com/things-to-do/country-sports/lough-bo-shooting-centre/

    Paintballing in Temple House

    http://www.templehouse.ie/ttd-sligo_paintballing.html

Eagles Flying, just down the road from Temple House

    http://www.eaglesflying.com/

If you've any interest in trad music, check out the Coleman Centre in Gurteen

    http://www.colemanirishmusic.com/

Heaps of Golf courses round the county, choose at your leisure (don't know the first thing about golf so can't recommend any one in particular)

    Sligo Folk Park in Riverstown

    http://www.sligofolkpark.com/

If you're staying in town, there's a beautiful walkway along the Garavogue, starting from the Riverside Aparthotel, going through Doorly Park

Check out the newly refurbished Model Niland Gallery if you're into art

I'll probably think of other stuff but that's all that springs to mind right now

EDIT: Thought of two more- a gander out to Coney Island is always a pleasure but PLEASE for the love of the baby Jeebus in his tuxedo teeshirt, don't take the bike, and most importantly CHECK THE TIDE TIMETABLE WITH SOMEONE RELIABLE

Also take a trip around Lough Gill on the bike, Slish Wood and Dooney Rock are nice places to stop for a stroll

I wouldn't recommend Sligo Folk Park. Apart from the annual vintage day it's like the Marie Ceseste.

Try the Arigna Mines instead, just inside Co. Roscommon. Spectacular scenery up there above Geevagh and Ballyfarnon on the Sligo/Roscommon border.

Plenty of good fishing on Lough Arrow at the moment, too. :)

na, not a footy fan but thanks for letting us know.

Well thanks for all the help, keep them coming. Thanks to Alaskimo-cake for the detail on your post. So far the clarion has been a big let down, I may change to the radisson next week. Bike parking issue >:-/ the manager of the radisson is a biker so was very understandable.

People on the streets are very pleasant and cafes are nice too. So here's to another 5 and a 1/2 weeks!

Unclebill98 you're more than welcome, and if I think of anything else I'll pop it up. I adore my wee home county and love to share it's beauty with others, would be intrigued to hear from you if you try any of the things mentioned and what you think of them :D

While you're sniffing donkeys you should consider that you're in one of the richest locations for magalithic tombs in western europe.. carrowkeel, knocknarae, carrowmore and pretty much anywhere you can throw a stone .. http://www.carrowkeel.com/sites/carrowkeel/carrowkeel.html
