I'm currently on the 30mb broadband only package, paying €49.74 a month so I called UPC up earlier hoping to get onto the 100mb, but was told that its not available yet in my area (dublin 13) but it should be later in the year.

But to be fair to the guy, he offered me the 25mb and the 24/7 local and national calls for €47 and said I can upgrade to the 100mb (and pay the full amount for that) when it becomes available.

So for 5mb less broadband, there giving me free calls (paying about €35 - €40a month presently) for €3 less.

Its a decent deal I think.

I changed from getting regular UPC (20MB broadband and full TV package) to getting one of the deals on offer. Currently I'm on the €65 a month deal so I'm getting TV, Phone and Broadband. As part of that pack the broadband is supposed to be 25MB down and 2.5MB up. I'm getting the 2.5MB down but I'm still on the slower speed of 20MB down (which I had previously been paying for).

    Anyone else having this issue?

Did you try rebooting the modem or switching off at the electricity and on again?. Thought i read people discussing this a while back and that was the solution in some cases.
I take it these speed tests are from ethernet?

I have rebooted the modem and no they aren't from an ethernet connection. I always hit around the 2MB mark when downloading from Steam with the older 20MB package so see no reason I shouldn't download at a higher rate with the new package.

Try wire it and run the speed test, it could be that your wireless connection isnt up to it.

No worries, that'll have to wait until I get a laptop so. It's the age old issue of the router downstairs and the PC is upstairs.

depending on what wireless card you have, you might have trouble getting faster than 20mbps out of it anyway going by other people's experiences here. wired ethernet is the way to go for speed tests.

When I went from 20 to 25, I power cycled the modem and initially I was getting between 1 & 5 meg down, which initially make me think 'oh crap I should have left it while all was fine'. I power cycled the modem two or three more times and after that I was getting the full speed and still am.

Fab service, very very happy with it after years of eircom slowness.

Yeah its just the signal strenght doesnt seem strong enough. I recently got upgraded to 50MB and my laptop is in the same room as the modem and im getting 50MB dn wireless. But the wireless pc in the adjacent room is only speedtesting at 20MB.

Is the 25MB connection good enough for gaming online on PS3?

The 12Mb connection is good enough for gaming on the PS3, The more speed just means you can download thing's faster.

Gaming require's good ping times, Which i must say, UPC have extremely decent ping's time for the most part, Really comes down to who the host is. Which with my UPC connection, I'm nearly always the host, For some reason.

Check the actual dates for the various packages. Usually when the bill is out and I ring it is because packages were changed during a billing period.

I literally only got the 30mb installed this month with the phone i'm being charged the standalone charge and these must have just came out the week after i got mine installed! 50 mb would only have costed me 3 euro more!

I used to be a tv customer about 2 years ago (went to sky as the recorder/upc box kept freezing) but waited for the broadband to come into the area to go back to upc and haven't had a problem with it.

Anyone any advice on if there would be something i could do, kinda feel like i've been dooped!

So is there a way to get around the standalone charge for not having a TV subscription?

If you have BB & Phone the standalone does not apply. They initially say this is for new connections, but they will waive it.
