looking to go to oxygen for the 1st time this summer. Im just wondering are there any hotels or b+bs near by that offer reasonable rates? From the looks of it I might have to stay in dublin and get a shuttle bus down. Camping is not an option:)

    It is purposely spelt oxegen

And you are correct not to camp there. Anyone with and feeling of self preservation would not bring a tent to the place.

I work there and would not recommend it.
Great days though if you can get local lodgings

What are the transport links between clane and naas like? What time does the music normally start and finish?

    Its OXEGEN;)

I have stayed in that campsite once and if you want to camp and pay the money its well worth it. Its much quieter, a completely different crowd, better facilities and much safer imo.

The red and blue camp sites do have a fair share of troublemakers who have little interest in the music and are there to get locked and only that. They tend to be very young and many shouldn't even get through the "rigourously" checked screening system. I've gone the last four years and alot of stuff is stolen whether drink or phones, and it can ruin the festival.

However, if you wait until Friday afternoon for the last fields to be opened in the red campsite, it's a far nicer experience imo and is as good as paying for exclusive camping etc. - much more spaced out, easier to get some good sleep, less mud if it rains, and less wasters. It tends to be more occupied by decent music loving folk who got a half day on the Friday from work and made their way down. A nice level of banter without being too in your face as can be in the fields available on Thurs.

Thing is, many local teens get there early on the Thurs to get their drinking on, and takeover the camping locations close to the entrances. They tear up the place cause they can afford to head back home into Naas whenever they need to, and the tent is only really something to store drink. As a local I know Naas people annually plan ahead to stay in R6 and R7 so as to have everyone close. Most of them are a great laugh but it can be mayhem if you want peace! Just a lil bit of advice :)

If staying in a local B&B, the shuttle service from the centre of Naas has become extremely efficient after years of figuring out a proper traffic management plan. You could easily be in the main arena 45 mins after joining the line for the bus and it's also very good at the end of the night. McDonald's is 24 hours and so is Abrakebabra so you can get some food after.

Naas is also served well by transport links from Clane and a 24 hour bus to Newbridge that goes as far as Portlaoise.

I live just off the Blessington Road and we're going to be at Oxegen all 3 days - does anyone know if it will be possible to walk out via Craddockstown road (the most direct route). I've heard that the road is closed for all apart from ambulances and residents as its the evacuation route but would be handy if we could walk it. Thanks!

I've walked that road a out and back a few years. Obviously pitch black on way back so maybe have a torch. Loads of free buses either

Any advice for what to bring when camping? The youngster is going for the first time (staying 4 nights), and wants to bring as much as possible to save on spending while there. What food? Any tips?

Cheers for that! I think we'll be walking out if possible but will definitely be getting the bus back.

The food there is quite good. Expect to spent 6 or 7 euro on a good burger. There is beer on tap as well. There is lots of fast food stands.

I would tell them to bring a spare tent also. Even a little tesco 20 euro tent. Lots of vandals and drunk ejits stamping all over the camp with little or no walking space in between camps. At least if the good tent gets wrecked there will be a back up. Get in early and get the tent to a parimater fence so at least no one will be camped to one side of you. Avoid toilet areas as they are over flowing by day 3.

Does anyone know if you have a staff pass can you camp in the other campsites? I have friends going. What is the staff campsite like, I'm going with other people I know but I'll be in the actual tent on my own.

who you working for ? My first year working oxegen decided to get b
+b for the days i am working better comfort after working long hours and no wories about the weather ,tent, etc . compared to getting the camping gear sorted or traveling hoem every day b+b is half the price .

Staff campsite is well spaced and alot more sober. Ye would be mad to camp in the punters area if you have a crew pass. If you are staff, you will have access to nearly all areas. Ye wont have time to socialize anyways.

  • Registered Users Posts: 342 ✭✭Ainekav

I'm volunteering a few hours a day so I will indeed have time to socialise!!

I'm not staying in a B&B too expensive, thanks anyway.

Access to nearly all areas - I like the sound of that :D

What time do you think it will finish up at on Sunday night ? I will probably be getting the bus back to Naas and then driving home. Where can I park in Naas and will I be waiting a long time to get the bus back to Naas from the concert.

Could anyone advise me on car park security? Not my first time to Oxegen by far but this'll be my first time driving and I've never paid much attention to how well the car park is looked after!

    Cheers

Is there anywhere to charge phones in the staff camping area?

    I'm volunteering for a charity

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,167 ✭✭✭gsxr1

there is a phone charging stall in the main field. Your company should/will also have a potacabin with mains hooked up
