Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi guys,

Some websites I use to view flash videos/flash games etc are running slow on my computer. My broadband speed in 5mb. My hard drive has 50 gb free space and I use AVG free version.

Could anybody advise me on how to improve the speed?

It is frustrating because other similar websites run fine.

    Thanks

update newer version of browser, flash player.. remove unwanted applications, cleanup registery if possible.. delete unwanted history cache.

Thanks. I will give that a go later. I'm nearly sure I have the latest version of Iinternet Explorer and I downloaded latest version of flash last night.

If I downloaded Google Chrome would this help?

Also I want to keep IE becasue I don't want to lose my favourites folder. Would I lose my favourites if I got rid of Internet Explorer?

    Thanks again

No, once you install and run chrome it'll ask if you want to copy your favourites.
You may also want to stop unnecessary processes from starting at start up and try running malware bytes as well as your AV.
(p.s. cleaning your registry is a bit of a myth)

Is malware bytes another programme? I have adaware installed too. I'll run it later, probably does the same jon.

I've done msconfig and stopped a few startup programmes too.

I might download chrome later and run it side by side with IE whichever one is slower is getting removed!

    Cheers

Sometimes the DNS server can be at fault too... this was the case with my parents internet connection.

    Alternative options include

    Google's: http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/
    OpenDNS: http://www.opendns.com/
    Comodo: http://www.comodo.com/secure-dns/

DNS = Domain Name Server you will have to set it manually

    Instructions for XP: http://www.mediacollege.com/computer/network/dns.html
    Instructions for 7: http://mintywhite.com/windows-7/change-dns-server-windows-7/

    I use the google DNS servers so;

    Primary DNS = 8.8.8.8
    Secondary DNS = 8.8.4.4

    Hope this helps.

This might not be the problem but its no harm anyway as ISP's DNS servers are generally rubbish. Its also easy to change back if you want to.

Thanks for that. Have you got the instructions for Vista and Layman's terms for trying it and then reversing it as it seems complicated to me!

These are step by step instructions for Vista:

    http://www.plus.net/support/software/dns/changing_dns_vista.shtml

To reverse it follow all the same instructions except in step 6 where you would once again click "Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically" again.

yep, adaware is the same sort of thing as malwarebytes - I haven't done research to know which one is better.
