Ooh have you thought about hooking the Saturn up to the cab? Even just as a temporary test. Drop the scaler and run the vga cable to that vga/cga adapter you have. Be interesting to compare the picture on the cab to the scaler output. :)

Yeah it's crossed my mind to do so. I need a place to plug the phono breakout to though. Not sure where I'd put that.

This really deserves a thread of it's own. But the subject is SHMUPS and PORN and really, this fits the bill nicely.

Check out MON from from Arika 1cc'ing DoDonpachi Daioujou Death Label.

So what? I hear you say.

It took the guy 7 years to do it.

Truely, this is SHMUP PORN at it's finest. Real, honest, pure top shelf smutty SHMUP ACTION. I actually think I need a shower after watching this video. Simply unreal stuff unfolding before your very eyes.

    Enjoy. :)

Oddly mine did too. Happy days. :)

By the way, Cave are putting up Futari and Akai Katana 'consumer' PCB's for a matter of mere hours (seriously) at the Cave Shop on Nov 21st. No guarantee you'll get one and the site will probably crash within minutes of midnight passing on Nov 21st.

Mushihimesama Futari "Cave Festival" edition is €1670 plus shipping.
Akai Katana "Red Version" edition is €2050 plus shipping.

Playing away at Radiant Silvergun at the minute on the Saturn. I have to say its frickin' hard isn't it? I'm playing "as nature intended", ie one credit, on normal difficulty with three lives, playing for score, and its very very tough.

Then on the other hand its very easy which I stick on my Saturn mode powered-up save with my guns at a very high level.

I'm planning now on just playing the thing until I get really good at it for score. I'm not playing it because its a beautiful, original and super-fun shmup, this is getting serious now! :D Going to have to do a lot of memorisation and planning if I'm going to do well..... Very very challenging, way tougher than Ikaruga, Mushihimesama, Espgaluda, etc. in my view. Loving it though and the soundtrack is marvelous.

Talking of pre-orders, DoDonpachi should arrive today and I must also get a pre-order on Gunlord asap!

Anyone else had their DoDonpachi copy arrive yet?

HAH! Sounds about the same as in my gaf, just with added punching the TV, getting it in some sort of a headlock and throwing the stick on the floor in a huff. :D

By the way, is Instant Brain out yet? Dying to try DoDonpachi with Kinect! Although I hear the game is region locked. :(

Didn't really get a chance to play DDP:R over the weekend :( but I did try listening to the arranges OST and it's pretty sh1t!

The in game music is great, particularly the third stage, they should have used that!

Should revive the high score thread for some competition :D

Speaking of shmup porn, I should be in heaven come Wednesday.

I'm going out to my grandparents for dinner. Popping up into their attic and grabbing my Saturn. I've had that Seimitsu Virtua stick and Radiant Silvergun sitting there since buying them, for months, unplayed. MONTHS! It's been killing me.

Just having a bash at Dodonpachi Resurrection on the candy via Xbox 360.

So far so good but the menus seem a bit laggy to me for some reason.

Gonna try it on the 50" HiDef TV next and rotate the screen vertically to see how it looks :D

The girlfriend will think I've lost it again but it'll be worth it.

    Arrange B is really weird.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 29,832 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

Had intended on a few trial runs. It's now three hours later.

Really engaging stuff. Not the hardest in terms of raw difficulty - have made it to 5th stage on one cred once or twice in 1.5 - but my word combo juggling is some intense ****. That number going red is heartbreaking every single time :(

Now if you excuse me, I have a puddle of eye juice to mop up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭blag

Yeah, arrange B is a bit bizarre alright!

In case anyone is wondering, the basics of scoring in 1.5 is to build up a chain and maintain it while having a full hyper meter.

Tricky to say the least as you really need to hyper at the beginning of a stage to get a decent chain (via cancelling bullets with hyper) and then either chain correctly until hyper is full or collect bees when they're green (green bees refill half hyper meter) to increase score.

Also, killing multiple enemies at once causes your chain to decrease so you have to pick your shots. I'm pretty sure that's how it works but I may be missing something.

    Nice!

I'd say get as many of the current release ships as you can. I meant to buy Shooting Game Historica volume 3 ages ago. It had the red Raiden ship, the Granada tank and the In The Hunt Sub.

now you cant seem to get them anymore.

Well there's one dude selling the set, at 96 dollars a pop!

Edit - and it had the Souky ship! God damn it, no wonder I wanted that set.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

Yeah the older sets seem to fetch a few bob now. I'd love to try and collect them all. The Darius ship is really rather well made. It's only a little yoke but nicely designed and looks swell on my desk.

Plus it's Darius, which is ace, even if Retr0gamer doesn't like that series very much. :D

Your model looks brilliant. I shall have one :) I think I'll just buy the complete sets.

Found volume 3. €36 delivered. He has four of them.

    Yoink!

Do you get the actual items in the pic or proper boxed ones you have to put together yourself? Hmm, if it's the ones in the pic already made up I'd have visions of them arriving in bits.

Those Japanese capsule toys are kind of like kinder eggs. I doubt putting them together will be much more complicated. (fingers crossed!)

Just bought volume 3 there. Can't wait to have my very own Raiden ship!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,509 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

No I meant I'd be afraid they'd turn up broken if they were posted already made up. Yeah I was tempted to get the Vol 3 for the Raiden ship. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

They are fully boxed (my freebie was just the parts in a bag). The build quality is very good and all the parts just snap together very quickly.

The Darius ship is actually surprisingly larger than I thought it would be. It's a nice treat to have anyway and kind of made my decision now to try and collect them all. As a shooting game obsessive I feel I owe it to the genre to collect those lads.

Can't get over it's a Darius ship too. Of all the series to get sent it had to be Darius! :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

They are only about 3-5cm tall Andrew76. So they won't take up much space at all. Very tastefully made, looks cool on the stand and won't get your collar felt by the plod in customs like those rudie hentai ones would. ;)

I've wanted to collect Gundam model kits for literally years, they look really hard to make though. These little yokes on the other hand are rather great.

A quick and dirty vid of Dodonpachi Resurrection running on my cab via the Xbox 360.

I really wish I had a button on my candy that when pressed would just quickly rotate the whole monitor for me :o

I did play it earlier on my HiDef tv and rotated that myself.
It looks pretty sweet running on a 50" vertical screen :p

Aww, show us a vid of it in tate!

Here, if you've a 50" plasma (as do I), go back to the very first post in this thread. :)

By the way.... remember that yoke I was on about last week??.................... it just arrived on my desk. More news when I get home tonight (and hope the thing works. My luck with stuff recently isn't the best).

    .

Cheers Steven Emmanuelle Ulysses SI. :D

Not 'too' pricey at all. The expense is the official board really. If you were to buy the official G-Net cards though, then it gets ridiculously expensive. The fact the board is modified to run a host of types is a big plus, G-Darius rev 1.0 and 2.0 for example.

It's really cool though the way you just use the flash card and swap out games. I was watching a video earlier of official cards booting and they take an age to load because of the initial authentication checks at the start. This board skips the check and thus boots the games a LOT quicker.

Other facts about the board I didn't know were the on board connectors for players 3 and 4, trackballs and, I think, lightguns!

The really cool part though is it remembers what was played. By that let me give you an example with Raycrisis. I hit Game Over and didn't want to continue. I came back later to the machine (switched it off too), booted up the system, inserted coins and entered my initials (not sure if this has anything to do with what happens next). The game then knows what course and mode you played last and offers you a chance to play that style again or go for a whole new mode of play and different levels entirely.

It's a really sweetly designed system (even if it is really a PSX underneath with some fancy trimming) but the compatibility with more than just G-Net is the sweet spot for me.

I definitely recommend picking one up if this sort of stuff interests you. Plus nearly all the games made for it are shooting games! :D

For feck sakes! I pre-ordered Sturmwind in August, grand. Went to check the website today and they have a limited edition for pre-order now. Wish they'd have bloody said so at the time that there would be an LE!

Gonna see if I can change my pre-order and pay the difference for the LE. I think it's worth the extra €20.

EDIT: Looks like they've delayed it AGAIN anyway. No longer 11-11-11 it's now 22-12-11.

@Steve_SI: Just spotted your youtube vid of DD running on the 50" LCD vs the cab. A youtube vid obviously can't do justice to that size screen but which one do you prefer?

I know I posted this link before (http://www.emphatic.se/?p=766) but if you haven't seen it you should check it out. See if any of the settings help improve the pic on the cab. One simple setting is to turn the wallpaper brightness to 0% so it's just black either side of the game window, makes it feel a bit more arcadey imo. :)

/Edit: lol just saw your post above. :D

I prefer the arcade screen to be honest.
It's cool and all on the large screen but just doesn't have the same feel to it.

Yeah I seen that post on emphatics site. The first thing to do when running it on an arcade screen is to turn off the image smoothing in the settings.

I never thought to turn down the brightness all the way on the wallpaper though, that's a good point as it is more authentic without wallpaper.
