I didn't realise there was a PC game of Raiden 3 with enhanced/changed graphics (PC and not the Taito Type X version).
Just giving it a go now, seems decent but its a Japanese PC game so the setup is all in Japanolingo so setting up joysticks takes a bit of trial and error.

Some Raiden 3 wallpaper that was on the disc.

And I now have a new wallpaper, thanks :)

Having been posting much for a bit as I picked up that projector on Friday. Absolutely loving it! Blazing through films like there's no tomorrow.

Just after watching Alien. It's unreal seeing those big cinematic Nostromo scenes on such a huge projection in your living room.

Haven't played too many games on it yet. Did fire up MAME for some 120 inch Raiden :)

No probs, I thought someone might like them.
Yeah it's pretty cool when you start to watch the movies on a really large screen, adds something extra to them.

Here's a bit of "Raiden III" I captured earlier. I haven't got the joystick working on it just yet and I'm not great at it but you get the idea.

Only way I can hook it up is via a Dreamcast MGCD adapter (it's 15k only). However after the PS1 version didn't work, I'm reluctant to invest in any more of them :(

Ahh, I thought it was a tri sync screen.

My cab is from the late 80s/very early 90s Japanese arcade era. It would share more in common with the Sega Aero than things like AWSDs, Egrets etc.

Tri Sync's were but a dream of the future! :D

Although to be honest, internally it's all pretty standard stuff. In fact the only real difference would be the monitor. Other than increasing monitor size and becoming more curvy (in a way, it's something similar to the development of Japanese car shapes!) there hasn't really been all that much change to them.

Hacked one myself, and working fine, but the dreamcast seems to randomly reset, not sure what the problem is I have a second that I have lent a friend so I need to check that.

Really wanted some border down too, House of the dead 2 \o/

This is what I'm using http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC-VGA-Box-Converter-Sega-Dreamcast-AV-S-Video-DC-/200612274996?pt=UK_Video_Games_Cables_and_Adaptors&hash=item2eb56c6334#ht_1139wt_1397

Yeah I've only hooked up DC to my Astro in the last two weeks and I'm having the same problem the last few days
I'm using the same VGA box as well.

I thinks its to do with the vga box all though no power is lost to led when it happens...or dreamcast!
I thought it may be dreamcast going dodgey but all is good when hooked to TV.
Maybe issue with auto switching tri-synch monitors and this box?
when it happens I've plugged out vga box and then back and it doesn't seem to happen again.
Ohh border down looks s3xy as hell on Arcade monitor and 31hz...I just wanna waste all my bombs to see the effect

Hmm there's an interesting challenge, getting the DC to run at 15kHz without that MGCD yoke. I wonder would my setup, that allows me to output the 360 at 15kHz, also work with the DC and PS2 maybe (ignoring pad hacks etc)?

Scart cable to Sync Strike, VGA to Extron RGB to cab monitor.

Never play my Dreamcast but it might be interesting from a technical point of view. PS2 probably more appealing because of the couple of shmups I have for it.

So did a little test this evening to see if the PS2 would hook up to the cab without much hassle. All I had to do was unplug the 360 scart from the Sync Strike and replace it with the PS2 scart, plug in the audio cables and everything worked a treat. PS2 running on a cab in a matter of minutes! No pad hacks ofcourse but the Namco stick is a fine alternative. The PS2 has that Matrix mod chip yoke in it so I can play all regions and backups.

Tested out Raiden DX, DDP Dai-Ou-Jou and Gradius V. DC and Saturn are packed away somewhere so couldn't test them but I'm guessing anything with RGB scart would work fine.

Full setup is: Console (rgb scart) --> Sync Strike (vga) --> Extron RGB 580xi (bnc to vga) --> video/audio switcher --> cab monitor & speakers.

A bit pricey I guess, probably talking around 70 to 80 quid to your door from eBay, got mine from the states. But you also need a BNC to VGA cable, got mine from lindy.ie for 20 quid as I was in a rush but probably cheaper elsewhere. You can use a standard PC power cable with it.

That's a fair whack of cash, to me anyway. But you do get a gorgeous low res picture.

One thing you can't see from my pics is distortion at the very top of the image, I've tweaked the vert size and position to move it out of sight as best as possible. It's above where the high score text is etc so doesn't get in the way. No idea if it's specific to my setup. I'm willing to bet o1s1n never noticed it when he had a go on the cab.

So how does the Extron RGB output? Is it VGA?

Come to think of it, I dont really think there's any way of me inputting that video signal into my cab. It's a standard arcade monitor with no VGA in (only the RGB cable socket things on the back which connects to the JAMMA harness)

Yes the output is a BNC to VGA cable - so the cab monitor needs VGA input.

Well, unless there's BNC to something else type cable. :)

Warning for retr0: There's some more scanline pics below so make sure you're sitting down in case there's a sudden loss of blood to the head. :p

Not interesting enough to post in the new GET thread but this little chap arrived this morning. It's a new LCD screen for the Beo4 remote. I use it with the B&O MX4000 I got off Pyongyang a while back - the TV I use with my MVS setup (that's the tenuous link to gaming :pac:). The original LCD was damaged so decided to get a replacement, makes zero difference to the gaming experience ofc but wanted to tidy up the B&O setup.

    fV7nu.jpg

Old LCD (supposed to be displaying TV but half of it missing):

    9eqjV.jpg

Open up the remote, remove two screws and a bit of fiddling about before popping in the new screen and putting it all back together:

    9NvTT.jpg

    Perfect:

    gvXjy.jpgt8x9X.jpg

The TV itself gives a gorgeous picture but it's shifted to the left a bit. Unfortunately you can't get into the Service Menu with the remote on this model but there's a relatively easy mod to do to make it accessible, no soldering thankfully. Just waiting on the parts to arrive to sort that issue out.

You can see in the second pic I'm missing about half an inch of image. Doesn't really detract from the gaming but want to get it perfect all the same.

I never was able to fully sort that RGB picture shift with my Trinitron, even with service menu access. Think I got it down to about half an inch. Well within acceptable levels in my opinion. The picture quality more than makes up for it.

That's some remote Andrew76! I really want one of those TVs. Something lovely looking about em.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,512 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

So the JST 2-pin wiring arrived in the post this morning meaning I could get cracking on the service menu mod for the B&O MX4000. As mentioned in the post above, the picture needed to be shifted to the right by maybe half an inch.

The mod itself involved unscrewing the casing on the back of the tv and lifting it up just enough to get access to the service menu pins (too afraid to remove the casing completely in case I necked the TV). After much fiddling about with pliers I managed to connect up the wire, bugger all space to work with.

    DKD7c.jpg

Luckily enough there was slight spacing between the casing and the SCART socket panel that meant I could just feed the wire out there, used a bit of electrical tape to keep it from falling about the place. I made up a little loom with a push button on the end - I can plug this in and out when needed and a quick press of the button and up comes the service menu. Works a treat. :)

    PNrRd.jpg

Same pic as yesterday showing the picture cut off:

    w7VYW.jpg

After altering some of the horizontal settings I get back the missing section (pic is a bit blurry), a noticeable difference:

    N5c5P.jpg

Big thanks to Faginrs500 for showing how to do the mod in the first place, he went a different route and mounted the button on the top back of the casing, very neat.

Anyway, really happy with it. :)
