I am wondering where is the nearest place to Cork city to go fishing with a rod and line from the shore?

Crosshaven or Fountainstown (off the rocks by Bunnies)

I don't do much sea fishing but the sea wall in Monkstown is popular, are you looking to catch anything in particular?

Cobh - it's in the inner harbour but a lot of fisherman down there, on the waterfront walk-way. Good Luck!

As okedoke said Monkstown is probably closest - off the wall, pier or car park. Cobh is handy too from the quay there behind the train station.

You also have plenty of beaches all within about 20 minutes of the city
    -myrtleville
-church bay including bull rock around the corner.
    -fountainstown
    -Camden fort
    -Roberts cove and rocky bay.
