it does in the parents house - they can receive and send faxes no problem!

I have used it too. I wouldn't want to be relying heavily on it, but it does basically work for sending the odd fax.

not everyone knows how to do an electronic signature on insurance/general application forms etc
Also, not everyone has a scanner available and the postal service, well you know yourself..
