Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi!

I am currently in 6th year and will be finishing up with school in a few weeks, I'm still deciding on the course I want to do.

I would really love to study exercise and health fitness or leisure management, there nothing I would like to study more, but for work after college, what are the choices?
I know you could be a personal trainer and stuff, but when I see a lot of personal trainers in different gyms they don't seem to do much.. Everyone does their own thing. I would love to teach people about exercise and health or own a leisure club, has anyone got any ideas on what jobs I could do if I do the course? Or even some gyms that would be quality places to work? I am considering Britain too.

I know at the gym i attend, there is a trainer there who will help you work out a plan of what you want to get out of being there, be it lose weight, get fitter or body building. He's great and a big help with nutrition

sport science might suit you, lots of colleges around the country offer a course in it and the job opportunities are more varied than if you were to just do a PT course.

A couple of mates of mine are studying Health and Performance Science at UCD and are really enjoying it. Have a look at the Sports and Performance prospective here.

Most people who do a sports science degree end up doing a gym instructors job. There are simply not enough science jobs in this country to support the demand for graduates. Other countries like Australia, NZ are places where a sports sci degree would go down better.

If you want to PT - do a course. Maybe gym ins vourse, then PT etc etc, see if you can shadow good trainers and work hard hard hard.

    Hi
I'm the exact same as you. i'm also in 6th year, when i finish i'm either goin to college or doing a plc course. I'm like you in the way i want to help people withe their training and teach people how to do the various exercises.I even did work experience in the gym i go to, it may look like the personal trainers dont do much but they do alot, there is alot of very high hygiene standards to keep. it's not all about working out. And the gym is never busy 24/7, it depends, some people will be in the gym really early in the morning and some go in the evening so during the middle of the day the personal trainers cant really do much if nobody's there. when you finish the sports science degree course you can become a fitness instructor, gym instructor, personal trainer, free-lance gym instructor. you can also be a coach with the G.A.A and the F.A.I, So the way i myself am thinkin about it is I'm going to be a fitness instructor because they do weights, nutrition and cardio. other areas of the health industry will only do pure cardio or pure weights workouts. so your better off going for the job that specialises in both weights and cardio, you will defintely do nutrition either way. So its just your choice as to what you really want, get what you want and worry about a job when the time comes because you could be in college for at least 3 years doing a sports science course. Hope that helps, and i hope you become what you want.
