    I've not done it myself yet, but from what I've been reading this evening you can do that with just software (any phat below firmware 5.??). As far as I can work out so far though, if you want to play the latest games, you are better off getting a battery anyway, as you can then update to the latest firmware and then flash the latest CFW. I could be wrong though? Maybe someone can confirm this?

    THe battery is surprisingly easy to make. I made one about 2 years back. You just need to open it up and cut a trace on the circuit board. Selotape it closed and you are away. It's always worked a treat for me.

    See here for instruction. They tell you to cut one of the legs of a chip in these instruction, but you can also just cut one of the PCB traces like in this pic.

    Aint touched the firmward on mine for a bit, but for the battery (i gotta spare one,when psp got bricked gf only gave them the console for trade :D) prity sure made it a pandora battery but didnt involve any wirin or anything. Cant remember how did it but was prity much softmodded or sumfin.
