If I rememeber right, you said you were running your 990X at 4.2 with a max temperature of 66°C on the stock cooler. So I was right - bull.

    Have you overclocked before?

For me to be of any help, I need to know your stock settings, to see what you've changed, and how much, etc.

You didn't answer what I asked. Luckily Intel gives you most of the stock settings online.

So you've bumped the multiplier up one. What's the stock voltage?

Edit: Why do you even want to overclock this chip? What's so stressful that you need more power than what the 990X gives you by default?

Everything on the above message is stock. That's what the defaults are. Why does anyone ever wanna over clock. See what it's capable of doing. Plus I use alot of CPU power doing what I do

    Multi of 27 isn't stock. 133x27=3600. Stock 990X speed is 3460.

    What do you do exactly?

Bump the multiplier up one, run Prime95 for an hour. If it's stable, and within your temperature limits, bump the multi up again.
If it's not stable, but within your temperature limits, increase the vcore one.
If it's stable, but not within your temperatures limits, drop the multiplier back one.

When you've found where you think you're going to stay, run Prime95 for twenty-four hours. Follow above rules.
    Rinse and repeat.

    Hi there

Thanks for all your info. Just 1 more question. What core temps do you think is max for an 990x. So I know what I should stay within. Also. Im a 3d rendering specialist.

    Thanks.

70°C with your hottest core, under P95.

I'd like to see some of your work...

I can show you some of my work if you'd like. also I stock bus speed I found on the chip was 143 MHz. but I was told to leave it at 133 for Overclocking. Shud I leave it at 133. And just do what u said. With your rinse n repeat method. I have the corsair h50 unit. I found a high rpm fan. Of I changed fan on the rad of the unit with the high rpm. Would that make it cooler. Sorry for all the question s. But this isn't my area. Ha

    Thanks

Stock speed is 133. Whoever told you otherwise is an idiot. Yes you should leave it. H50 will be fine. High RPM fan is good.

If you break it, I'm not responsible. Just getting that out of the way now.

    You screwing something up.

If you follow what I laid out, you'll be fine, but that doesn't mean people haven't found ways to break virtually unbreakable things before.

I'll follow those steps lad. And when its running to hot I'll just lower multiple. Etc.

Do you think that High rpm fan would lower temps alot.

    Thanks.

What makes you think I have the slightest idea? I've never used a 990X, and I've no idea what the two fans are!

Give me the specs of both fans, then I can give you a rough idea.

High RPM fan will be better, but probably not by a whole lot.
