Hi there - am having touble finding an "affordable" changing bag. Am due in a couple of weeks so trying to get all the end bits and pieces. Really dont want to be spending 50 yoyos on it but dont want to spend 20 and end up having to replace it after a couple of months. ALl the ones Im seeing are either useless or too expensive. Thanks a mill

You don't need a changing bag. We used a standard backpack for both of our girls & it worked just fine. It's easy to get carried away, but all you need is a small bag to carry one change of clothes, 3-4 nappies, wipes and bottles/feed (if you're not breastfeeding). A backpack is perfectly suitable (although not as fashionable).

I bought a Quinny changing bag as I wanted one to match my pushchair, but thats cos I'm a bit 'like that' and like having things ot match. It was actually cheaper than alot of the changing bags out there but still expensive. Think it was about £30.

As a previous poster said, you only really need a normal backpack. You can get folding wipe clean travel changing mats in most baby shops, and the rest is just stuff like nappies, clothes, bottles etc...

I hardly even use my changing bag anymore! If we're only going out for a short while I just bring a nappy and wipes in a nappy sack in my handbag. I keep a little supply in the car for emergencies but so far haven't needed them!

Do any of your friends have kids? Ask around, someone might have one to spare. I got one as part of a deal with the buggy. It's a decent size, came with changing mat and a few other bits. I don't use it (I got a 'posh' one as I've a bit of a bag fetish anyway) but my husband uses it when he's out with our son as it's plain navy and he feels it's more 'manly' than my pretty one. I also got one from my sister but I gave that one to a friend of mine who still uses it. Anyone who has more than one kid or who has changed buggies at any point is likely to have a spare one - ask around, save yourself €30.

I just bought a large handbag in Next. It has two pockets on the sides that I can use for two bottles, theres a couple of section in the bag and it fits change of clothes, nappies, wipes, formula and then all my bits like wallet phone etc.

Its handy not to need two bags when I'm going out.

I got a Cath Kidston bag on ebay - not one of the changing bags but just a bucket bag. Changing bags are so big and bulky and I've found that something smaller works just fine and looks a lot nicer!

I've got a backpack type one but I rarely use it. It's not a trendy designer one but I can carry on my back. I got a travel change mat with pockets to store wipes and nappies and I use this all the time. It's compact enough to put in the buggy basket. It's so much handier than a huge change bag. Having said that I breastfeed so I don't have to carry bottles around.
