Just one of those days. Carroll miss and the penalty decision really annoying moments. Frustrating but what can you do.

We may still nick 5th next weekend.

No Europa League would be a blessing in disguise imo. I know people say it's good for giving the youngsters a chance and all that but it rarely works out that way.

At the end of the day it has the potential to derail your efforts in the PL. Better off without it.

At the same time how can we realistically expect to sign top players when we have no european football??

Europa league is better than nothing imo

Its what Meireles does that missing. What he does looks so simple but everything just ticks in midfield when he is playing. They really are missing that today.

Potential signings will want to play in Europe, even it is only the Europa League.

A top footballer won't care whether they are in the EL or not. It really will not be a relevant factor when trying to sign players in the summer - for us or Spurs.

I agree with this tbh, funny and all as it is to see Liverpool lose, its a nuisance and means they end up playing loads of games at odd times on Sundays, not to mention lots of unnecessary trips hime on a Thursday night. The likes of Carragher will thrive on fewer games.

A new-look Liverpool team entirely focussed on domestic football next season could be a dangerous beast.

Carroll is just wandering around the pitch getting into peoples way. Dont know what thinking is behind playing Suarez, N'Gog and Carroll together.

What position where we in when Suarez joined us? Back then I don't think anyone thought we would have a realistic chance of 5th, although I'm open to correction on that

Maybe, but stick a sitter and don't get a lol reffing decision against us and we're level.

Bull. The squad needs the games. Going from no Euro matches, to CL and tonnes of Euro matches is NOT a good thing.

If we can't get 4th while being in EL, how could we do it while being in CL? I hate that argument. We need to be in as many competitions, to ensure the squad is up to it.

Meireles is really missed alright. Absolutely love him as a player, links things up, always positive and showing for the ball and with a great brain.

It dies show up the failings in our squad and the lack of depth we have. No matter, we have the summer to fix this

I don't think it would have much of an impact on potential signings.

I get the impression a lot of the more established players don't enjoy playing in the competition at all.

Sandro and modric have won the midfield battle hands down

Yeah - they have both been excellent in fairness, along with Dawson and King too.

Of course I'm not happy with Liverpool losing but this is not the end of the world.
The team kept trying to play good football but lacked good penetration in last third of pitch.

Also have to give credit for Spurs, their defence played very well and really restricted Liverpool to shots from outside of box.

Also, wouldn't be too harsh on Carroll, didn't get a lot of service today and was unlucky not to connect with header chance in first half.

Pity they haven't kept momentum going but they will learn from this and get better.

Almost laughable how underrated Dawson is in some quarters.

King is a fine defender when fit, but he is Woodgate like for injuries.

Yaay finally get back to wining after sixty something games without a win away from home v Liverpool,Arsenal,Chelsea and Utd we get two in one season and could of been more!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,692 ✭✭✭Dublin_Gunner

If even just for their defending, Spurs probably deserved it.

Liverpool could do nothing with the tonne of posession they had, and with Dawson in that form, it wouldn't have mattered who was playing, Liverpool were always gonna find it difficult to score.

0-2 is very harsh, especially with the non-penalty.

Had it stayed 0-1 I'd have no complaints tbh.

Lets hope the Brummy's can do us a favour next week lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

Maybe people will see Sandro for the fine young talent he is, he's been doubted here amongst many quarters. He's put in several top performances since January.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,560 ✭✭✭✭Kess73

Cannot argue with the result today. I thought Liverpool would have too much for them, but we were very disjointed up front today compared to recent games.

Carroll's inclusion seemed to badly hamper the interplay that Kuyt/Maxi/Suarez had going for the last few weeks.

I think Kenny should have gone 4-2-3-1 if he wanted to play Carrol today instead we had a 4-4-2 that seemed to be unsure whether to stay as a 4-4-2 or go 4-3-3.

Credit to Spurs though, they stuck to their own game, even when under pressure and Dawson/Modric/Sandro/King were a good spine for them today.

The peno was harsh imho, but even without it Spurs still would have had a 1-0 today as finishing was not Liverpool's strong point today, or maybe it just looked that way due to how well Dawson and King played.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,313 ✭✭✭✭K-9

Spurs deserved it no doubt, despite the stupid penalty decision. Suppose it makes the last day interesting which is still an achievement. I wouldn't play Carroll myself, stick with the team that was in form.

Spurs great value for their win, back 4 were excellent and that young Rose lad looks quality. It's a shame they've had to play the season with Gomes behind them.

I got skeptical when spurs got the early goal. Its not often we go one down and come back. That needs to be rectified.

Wasnt impressed with Carroll at all. Its amazing the difference one change can make to a team.

Dawson was pretty immense today. When I saw the teamsheet for spurs i was hopeful. they proved me wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,194 ✭✭✭mada999

good result from spurs.. TBH I thought it was an even enough game. Half chances etc from each side.

    1st goal
Poor defending from Liverpool for VDV's goal, why leave him alone unmarked outside the box. That is danger waiting to happen. Good technique from the dutch man to score.

    2nd goal
Poor decision by web... Should have never been a penalty, shoulder to shoulder. Someone else said about that it is pussys game... it will go that way if ref's give penalties for these challenges.. Was it outside the box also?

Liverpools best players for me were : Flanagan and Suarez.. I thought Lucas and Carroll had a poor game

Spurs best players for me were : Crouch (won every header and held up the ball really well - Carroll take note!) Modric (class act), Rose (done well attacking), Sandro (broke play up) and Dawson (broke things up and mopped up everything in the box)..

Liverpool didn't play with the fluidicity of the last few games. Not sure whether losing Meireles was the factor or the addition of Carroll today who isnt match fit... TBH i think Spurs won the midfield battle (especially with Crouch coming deep and laying the ball off to Modric et al) and whoever win this battle more often than not, wins the game.

Aye... was Cudicini injured all season? Didn't put a foot wrong today..
