Putting up ranch style fencing at home on ground that is extremely shaley in places. Hiring an auger to start off the holes in the soft areas.

What can i do when i hit shale which the auger cant handle. would a kango hammer work? Any advice would be appreciated.

Found a tool company that rents Hydraullic Augers and the power pack for €70 for the weekend. Might be worth a shot.

Hired the Hydraulic auger and it was useless, borrowing a kango hammer.
