Side note re: the batch bread.

Its has to be proper batch, not the sliced kind bought in a wrapper. The ole fashioned original one you have to slice yourself, with the big thick crust, anything thing else is just a humble imposter.

Meath street bakers ! thats where you'll find an original batch.

Can't believe no one prefers Salt and Vinegar to Cheese n' Onion.

I like to open the crisps, then crush the bag so the crisps are in tiny pieces and then pour them into a hollowed out buttered roll or blaa. Unreal.

i experimented with Dorito's at lunch today. Too crunchy tbh.

You can't beat the hollowed out roll! A masters trick!

I am fond of an auld chipsticks sandwich!

But I'm stuck in England, so this thread is making me sad!

Smiley Bacon crisp sambos. No butter. No beetroot. No coleslaw. Just crisps inside some fresh Brennans.
Oh and if yis are mixing something with popcorn, then cheese and onion crisps are the business!

I know a chap that eats apple sandwiches every day for lunch. No butter or anything, just slices of apple and bread. He also only has 2 different types of meal each week:

    Mince and pasta (no sauce)
Chicken and rice (breast, no sauce)

Now that I think about it, i'm gonna stop hangin around with him...

Ironic that I should read this while on the throne having an absolute banger of a sh1t, still going to the shop first thing for crisps and bread and maybe even some toilet roll in the morning.

Batch bread, butter, crisps and a slide of Ham....Washed down with a cold beer.....

A personal favourite of mine is salt and vinegar/cheese and onion depending on the mood... white bread...lots of butter..lettuce and BBQ sauce...... lovely!

kings or tayto in white bread with no butter for me :D

also people mentioning crisps with other stuff... waffles with m&m's emptied into the packet are unreal.

It's a great sammich but it must be soft, fresh, white bread with cheese & oinion or smokey bacon potato crisps, but not hula hoops.

It no longer qualifies as a crisp sammich if cheese and ham are introduced.

Totally agree. If you add anything else, like ham, it's a ham sandwich with a few crisps. The just defeats the point!

I love batch bread, loadsa butter and king or tayto. Either fits the bill for a decent crisp sambo!

It's nice alright. Before I used to put cheese in too but lately I have been toasting the bread.

Bread: has to be fresh white Brennans,
    Cheese: Kilmeaden Cheddar.

I don't use butter, I use mayonnaise instead, washed down with a glass of milk.
The perfect post couple of pints down the pub get home munchies food.

People who look down on crisp sambos are the same people who'd complain to the café/deli if their rustic delicatessen sambo came without crisps on the side.

    Ehh...ye wha?

Damn, you never made sugar sambo's as a kid? Butter a slice of bread and dip in sugar? It was the kind of haute cuisine that kept my dentist in Merc's. :)

Crisp sandwiches, used to eat boxes of crisps during xmases in white bread and butter with coke of course as a kid..still do. Used to go crazy when the mother bought the multi-flavor boxes as cheese and onion used to be my favorite, also I got to like salt and vinegar :)

Used to remember putting chef brown sauce into bags of cheese & onion taytos also and shaking the bag :) haven't done the for years!

P.S. Also can't eat an ordinary sandwich or chicken roll without crisps :)

Just finished a crisp sandwich and I forgot how nice they are,how can something so simple be so great, all you need it three things,Bread - Tayto Crisps - Butter, and away you go..Anybody else have a craving for this Irish delicacy?

Ah this reminds me of school! You used to pick out the ham or cheese slices and fill it up with crisp, then mash it a bit! Heaven!

Bread has to be white and really soft and only cheese and onion crisps would do!

    I'm gonna get some now i think....:D

Starving now!! I want a crisp sandwich for my lunch!

A few years ago I went to the states and took a batch loaf and some tayto for my mate I was staying with. She took them into work and made a crisp sambo. The yanks were all laughing at her until she told them to try it - soon changed their minds when they took a bite!!

I've never had a crisp sandwich in my life. Just the thought of bread, butter and crisps together makes me retch.

I used to love sugar sandwiches though. If I was feeling really adventurous I used to sprinkle sugar on a buttered cream cracker.

Fresh regular bread and Walkers Thai Sweet Chilli crisps - fantastic.

No butter though, don't know how anyone takes butter with a crisp sandwich - there's enough fat in there already! Bread does need to be fresh though!

If you are going to make a crisp sandwich the fat content is the last thing you think about! :D

When I'm trying to be good a Tayto Snax sandwich alwasy does it, 70 cals each slice of bread, 70 cals Tayto Snax and 70 for the butter. so 280 for a hangover cure :-)

This is the first thing I'm gonna eat when I go back to Ireland. I've been in Spain for a while now, and these f*ckers eat nothing but fish and eggs. Where's the Tayto sandwiches, hey?

Just had a crisp sandwich for the first time in years!

    Fresh white batch
    Real butter
    King Cheese and Onion

So wrong but so so right.
