I can't get over the ordinary look of the room, it looks more like a Chamber of Commerce dinner than one for the Queen...

It'll be a welcome change for her!

Wellington, though born in Ireland into an Anglo-Irish family, would have considered himself ever inch an Englishman. Also, that quote is often attributed to him, but he never said it.

But wasn't he the lad who coined the phrase "Being born in a stable doesn't make you a horse" or somesuch ? He didn't consider himself Irish hence the cringe.

That quote could be a myth, but lets just say that by today's standards. He was an ultra west-Brit he probably didn't even spend much time in Ireland.

I'm no historian but thats the way I see it :pac:

I prepared a poem to say at the dinner tonight, but sadly wasn't invited, so I'll just have to recite it to you peasants

Oh goodness gracious me, why don't you take a seat, for we're in for a royal treat, oh yes, it will be so sweet, for we're going to get to watch the Queen eat!

They invited Seamus Heaney instead, I really don't know why...
