How to get from Merrion Square to Finglas

Can someone help me get from Merrion Square to Finglas avoiding Gardinder Street, Beresford Place, Butt Bridge.

I am not from Dublin and havent got a clue especially with all the road closures

will be aiming to leave work around 4PM.

Would i be better going torward Blackrock and picking up the M50 there?

Or what about the East Link Bridge - how would i get there from Merrion Square ?

Hi IB. I presume that you are travelling by car. Go to http://www2.aaireland.ie/routes_beta/ & enter "Merrion Square, Dublin" in the FROM field & "Finglas, Dublin" in the TO field & click Search. You'll get back a map & a list of directions.

thanks but that is sending up the quays and O'Connell Street which is closed.

I need to get over the river, would i be better driving to Blackrock and picking up the M50 there ?

or is the port tunnel open? how much does that cost ?

Sorry - I didn't realise that O'Connell Street is still closed. Am in Switzerland, so not really keeping up on road closures at home.

The Port Tunnel should be open. (No idea of the current rates though.)

getting to the M50 may be a pain, maybe going via the O2 and back up east wall road is an option. The port tunnel being a €10 at that time wouldn't be the cheapest

one thing to note is that you can't turn right after becket bridge so if you go a bit further on and turn right at sheriff's street upper you can get to east wall that way

and rather then turning left after beckett bridge just go straight

(google maps has the wrong way systems inputted on it hence why I can't do either map properly as it won't let me)

The bit on the south side of the quays on that map is one way going the opposite direction, you'd have to drive up Macken Street to get onto the Samuel Beckitt Bridge, but that area has been swamped with gardai today, it wouldn't surprise me if the bridge gets closed, I believe the Queen is visiting the Convention Centre at some stage.

i think East Link might be my best option (if its open) but i wouldnt be going that mad way google maps showed

maybe i will just go and visit my mammy instead and wait until all the roads open up again.

EDIT: AH CRAP I FORGOT ABOUT CROKE PARK looks like i will be going that crazy way google maps show - i dont post here again, you know its because i am lost going around in circles, in eastwall

From Merrion Square, turn onto Holles street, beside the Maternity hospital. Keep going, go under the railway arch, then turn right onto Pearse street. Take a left turn at the next set of traffic lights and you'll be on Macken street. Follow it all the way down to the south quays, and cross the new Samuel Beckett Bridge.

Turn right off the bridge, and you'll be heading to the Point Theatre. From there, you can either enter the Port Tunnel to get to the M50, if you're afraid of getting lost, or you can follow East Wall road along as far as Drumcondra, before turning right onto the Swords road to head North, and then left to Griffith avenue to take you to the Finglas road.

be advised that there is a Europe League "Fanzone" around the Point Village, so there could be restrictions in and around there too.

errrr...............well that is not going to happen - going to stay in work until 5pm, so hopefully, i will get home
