Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey guys...looking forward to this, although I didn't realise there was an option to apply through boards. Went through the official site and got a pitch that way. Is it likely this will affect where I am placed on the green? Do boards members have preference over the pitches on the Dawson Street side of the green?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,570 ✭✭✭sNarah

Yup, we've an allocated lot, probably around the corner. You most likely will be further up from that or near the stinky, poo-poo horses/Viking dudes :o

As for spending Cakes Of rice, neh, not much really... Around 50 quid I'd say (not incl. the participating money), on mounts, chicken wire, plastic covers and stuff. A lot of people also print business or Moo cards to hand out on the day.

This year I'm not mounting mine, my "plan" (ahem, that sounds serious!) is getting all sorts of frames, big, small, coloured, gold, old looking, and create an eclectic mix of them, and just print the images to fit all the frames.

Also, keep in mind that officially you're not allowed to sell, so don't bother with price tags and all that jazz...

Another thing I just thought off: Phil brought in the Boards.ie tags last year on the Sunday... maybe we could be a bit more prepared and do something funky? And have the sign around the corner again? And everyone brings food too (ahem, just decided that that should be obligatory :o)

A communal picnic would be great as we'll be all very close to each other. Regarding the boards.ie tags, I have something in mind ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,570 ✭✭✭sNarah

    Picnic FTW!

Non-photography related important items to bring:
    - candy & sweets for me
    - Seats
    - A few tables wouldn't go amiss
    - A few drinks (I mean water :))
    - Spare change for parking meter alert and coffee (insomnia around the corner!)
    - Anything to make your stand look prettier

    Like TheElfyOnes last year:

Or Shane's LIKE sign (thanks Foamcutter :))

Pity. Didn't you have to bow out of Charleville Castle too? Would've been nice to meet you again. But suppose there will be another photowalk at some stage.

Would it be ok if jjdubya shared my space? He's been to the last few photowalks/trips and as it's my first time taking part too it would take the pressure off a little for me! If it's not ok.. no worries!

You don't even have to ask. It's your space and you can do whatever you like with it (legallly) ;)

    better find some chickens.......

I didn't use chicken wire last year. Just string and pegs. I also didn't have prints in plastic but had a large sheet of plastic I could pull down in case it rained.

When you are preping your display please remember to check the rules on http://www.peoples-photography.com/the-rules/

"Wire or other materials likely to cause damage to the railings should not be used"

Last year I used strips of webbing (like a long strip of strong material approx 1 inch wide, I got mine in Homebase in Nutgrove). My photos were mounted on A4 cardboard, so the night before I took one long strip of the webbing laid it on the ground and lined it up with the left side of the photos and used small black clamps to attach them to the webbing. I left a bit at the bottom so I could tie it to the railings. Next I folded the strip over to the right side leaving a good bit loose at the top so I could hang it over the top of the railings and clamped the strip down the right side of the photos. I had 4 photos on each strip of webbing and 5 strips. In the morning all I had to do was take the strips out of the box with the photos already on them and hang them on the railings.

    Thanks,
    Declan

Should that not read "Owed" ;-)

... but you know I'm good for the cash ... Thanks BTW

Now to pick out the images ... I have it narrowed to around 50 from a particular body of work so far ... and have enlisted help from a few people to get that down to 9 or so ...

Thanks to Sineadw's wonderful print workshop I plan to print them at Rua ... use of their excellent multimedia facilities is so ridiculously cheap ...

Does anyone want to take my place as I'm getting back from holiday's on the day before the weekend & I'm not going to take off & leave the family for the weekend. I'd holidays arranged for earlier in the month, but had to delay them for work reasons.

There's still three weeks to go, so there's time for someone to prepare their exhibit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

ShaneM space has now been taken

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭xia

@shane: Dislike you can't make it. But at least you get to go on your holidays.

@sheesh: I got 100 (moo-) cards printed - with 10 of my pics on them. In the unexpected case that is not enough I still have old ones though.

Ok, panic starts to set it. Haven't looked at my pics to decide (other than the ones I used on my business cards), need to get my printing organised. Not to mention the mounting.
At least I have hanging, two prints from Sineads workshop, last years prints (not really an option) and those cards.

    all be good, right? ;)

(at least I'm back from holidays now and don't plan to go away before that weekend)

It's my first time at this event.

Do I need to make extra prints in case I sell any (or are any sales processed afterwards)?

Where is the best place to get mounts? How much should I expect to pay? Thanks.

You're not allowed sell your stuff - officially - so don't worry about extra prints.
