Volunteer campus security

Hi guys a fellow student was talking about this idea that there should be a volunteer campus security made up of students to keep a watchful eye over fellow students due to the risk of attack etc. I think its not a half bad idea, so i said i'd put it up here. But would it work? What you guys think?

Few things to consider, insurance, liability, vetting etc... Not putting the idea down, but what happens if the "security" get attacked etc...

I'd personally feel a lot safer if the fencing club got more funding to spend on weaponry... :P
