Moving to Ireland - Unlock iPhone 3GS?

Hi. Does anyone know if I can unlock an iPhone 3GS from the USA to use in Ireland? We'll need to buy other phones as there's myself, my wife, and three daughters. We wouldn't be using them a terribly large amount, as we really don't have friends or family in Ireland, so it would be mostly to communicate with each other, and perhaps the rare call back to the States.

I saw a suggestion on this board for the O2 Release Edge, which initially sounds like it could be a good plan for us, but we'd like to use the iPhone with data, since we already own it over here.

I don't know if it will work over here but 3 are doing a good offer on the iphone 4 at the moment. Free iphone4 and All you can eat data (unlimited) for €40 a month. Not bad if you like iphones

AT&T will not officially unlock the handsets for you - because - well just because. The only option would be to jailbreak the handsets and then unlock from there. Search iCalrified for more info.
