Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

TMJ, Sinus and Vestibular problems, advice or help?

    Hi,

I'm 26 and for the past years i have had a cluster of problems i believe are connected, but no clue as to whats triggering what.. its all really spiralling now and anxiety has been thrown into the mix, i havent been able to work due to all this unfortunately, its set me back that much.

My symptoms include, facial pain, around sinuses - frontal, sphenoidal and maxillary, pains in jaw and teeth, ear aches, headaches, pains behind head and ear (especially on left side) that travel down neck, into shoulder etc.. (i feel trigger points and little lumps) i have fullness in the ear, pressure in the temples, tinnitus, double jaw pops/clicks on both sides, vestibular dysfunction which include balance, dizziness, vision and motion sickness (when not moving) not to mention trigeminal neuralgia symptoms..

In the past i had a tooth infection and feel that i also have that again, not to mention impacting upper wisdom teeth..

Can dental problems/infections,TMJ etc cause issues with the vestibular system and sinuses?

I'm on the medical card and well aware of waiting lists and i'm alsotrying to find an open minded dentist - who has an understanding of TMJ..

Any advice or help greatly appreciated, my life has been on hold long enough :)

    Thanks

    Chantelle

Dental/sinus/TMJ/weird and wonderful pain syndromes/ ear nose and throat problems are all possible and unfortunitly there is no super specialist that I know of who is a specialist in all areas.

Going on the public system- you'll wait for an age to see them all...
If it was a choice- I'd see an ENT surgeon first.

On the private front- I can PM you with the name of a very good dental/TMJ/facial pain specialist in Dublin. He can steer you in the correct direction.

    All the best,
    OS

    Chantelle,
I have all of those symptoms over the last few years, with the exception of a tooth infection and my impacted wisdom teeth are on the bottom. So I sympathise with you BIG TIME!
I am currently seeing a maxillofacial surgeon who wants to operate on my TM joints - I'm not too sure about that at the moment, but I’m back for a follow up appointment with him shortly. I am also seeing a pain consultant who has helped me to manage the pain much more effectively. I can PM you the names if you wish. Both of these work in the public system.
I did see two ENT's who were unable to help me, but that's not to say they won't be able to help you. You may need to see ENT anyway even if it's just to rule it out.

ch1984 i have suffered all the same as you, horrible silent suffering that effects life hugely. Im looking into the fact my posture and c1 & c2 in neck could be causing some of the symptoms. Have also been diagnoised with Coeliac disease and hayfever and dust allergys also. Hope we can all find a solution soon x

I think he is the one I just visited. And yes, he seems very good.

I had been suffering the same(ish) symptoms for the last few months. I visited my dentist several times, she couldn't find anything wrong with my teeth. I went to a different dentist for a second opinion and he advised I needed some root canal on the wisdom tooth. I went back to my usual dentist with this, she said (quite wisely I think) that it would be best not to hurry into irreversible dental works and later find out that I'm still in pain. So she reffered me to this facial pain specialist, and neuralgia was diagnosed. I've just started the treatment, it seems to be working but the side effects are hell :(
Anyway, I'd rather get a spotty face and runny nose for a few weeks than stay with these dental / jaw pains for years

And another thing: my dental pains really felt like I had another tooth infection or some nerve was dying, except that the pain is intermittent rather than constant and that I really cannot locate the tooth. Sometimes it's at the top, sometimes at the bottom, fromt, back... It drove me mad
