I'm sure someone has already mentioned this, but I'm not arsed reading the whole thread, but Toy Story beat Godfather. I know these lists can't be taken seriously, blah blah blah, personal opinion, everyone entitled, blah blah blah.....BUT F**K THAT S**T!!!!!!!!!

Toy Story had three outstanding films, each one arguably better than the last and each one ranked as one of the best films ever made in many people's eyes. The Godfather had two films comparable to Toy Story in greatness and one pretty rubbish movie. Thats a score of 3-2 to Toy Story :P

I'm not quite sure where the recent Toy Story backlash has come from (anyone who says Toy Story 3 is a kids film wasn't paying enough attention), but I certainly don't like it.

Again, I can only restress like Mickeroo above that 2 great films does not make a great trilogy: three great films do. Hence the only ones that deserve to be discussed in terms of 'great trilogies' are three films that remain consistent and build upon each other. It's why I wouldn't consider Aliens, Godfather or Back to the Future (oooohh, controversial - I like three but it is a step back) great trilogies despite being pretty awesome, but would consider Toy Story and Three Colours fine examples of a consistent trio.

Alright, I'm not going to argue with that. However, Toy Story beat the Indiana Jones trilogy. I don't see a weak movie in that trilogy. How in the hell did that happen. I'll let the Godfather go, but there's no real defending of Toy Story above Indiana Jones(or even the Bourne trilogy for that matter!).

    Quite simple really.

That's your opinion and fair enough but it is very easy to defend.

Temple of Doom is widely considered a weaker movie than the other two. As for the Bourne movies, well I wouldn't say the first one is as good as the other two but they are all great movies, but I don't think I could class any of them anywhere near the quality of any of the Toy Story movies or the first two Godfathers for that matter.. IMHO of course.

See now that's not true now is it?

Empire is what it is. Don't see the need for all the little digs tbh.

I used read it and no longer do but i'd put that more down to the dawn of new media as opposed to the magazine itself.

Not as a strict rule, but more often than not it is the case.

Was just thinking about it now and if you take Star Trek 2, 3 and 4 you have an actual coherent trilogy that is better than a few of and more importantly a more valid trilogy than most of the the stuff on the Empire list.

Those were Harve Bennett's three films, and I agree, they make an excellent trilogy. I think Star Trek III is very underrated and is a great demonstration of the importance of sacrifice in a story, something which was sadly forgotten in the TNG films.
