    Hi lads,

as I'm new to Ireland and boating a quick question:

Do I need a license to drive a boat?
If so - does it depend on the size of the boat or engine or sail?

    Regards
    Robert

Hi Tnhop, welcome to the forum.
No, you do not need any sort of licence to take a boat out in Ireland, although there are courses you can do if you wish.
It is not mandatory to have your vessel insured either although I would advise that you do.

    Any other question just shout!!

Nope, no tax thankfully! As Fergal said, don't be giving them ideas!! :p

Just after thinking, depending where you are going to be using the boat it may have to be registered with Waterways Ireland (if your using it on the lakes)
Take a read here for more info. http://www.waterwaysireland.org/index.cfm/section/article/page/BoatRegistration
It is free to register so things ain't to bad!!
