Rofl, he's come on leaps and bounds, but he is nowhere near the best LB in the world.

Good going forward but very lacking defensively imo. Ya id agree about Ramos alright. They need to buy whole new backline. Im suprised they dont buy Coentrão and maybe Chiellini at least instead of buying CM's that they dont really need imo

I'd say Mourinho will have a cb lined up. Ramps and Marcelo do decent jobs. Just not spectacular. Chiellini is a good shout.

Well done to Ronaldo on his goal haul this season. Amazing total. Shame from the clubs point of view that it was largely irrelevant due to Barca in the league and CL. Maybe next season. Ronaldo has often given the impression that individual honours and records mean a lot to him so I guess he is happy enough with how this season has turned out.

    Great goal

I just hope C.Ronaldo can get more goals, the bus has really been stubborn tonight. Kaká might follow Benzema and turn it on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,960 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Im surprised Kaka didnt get a call up to the Brazilian team, I know he's been poor but he'd should at least get a spot on the bench

FFS will C.Ronaldo score!! Wouldn't blame his for his disappointment against Adebayor scoring :pac:

    Who's better genuinely?

Cole maybe. I wouldn't say anyone else from the premier league.

Abidal? Maxwell? Rofl as you would say yourself. Go on who's that much than Marcelo that he's nowhere near the best LB in the wordl?

Poor and all as Paddy Evra has been he's still better than Marcelo. Despite it not being his preferred position, I've seen enough of Lahm at LB to suggest he's a better option that Marcelo as well.

    So thats

    Cole
    Evra
    Lahm
    Abidal
    Fabio Coentrao

off the top of my head anyway.

    Kaká taken off, invincible.

BTW, Marcelo has been superb this season.

what a superb goal there, the counter attack was lethal

    The bus has crashed :D

Tbf, Marcelo has been up there as one of the best left backs in the world this season. His defending has improved drastically and he is as good as ever going forward.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,005 ✭✭✭CorkMan

FFS, an Adebayor hat-trick. I find myself complaining like C.Ronaldo :D

Tbf you can't blame them for not wanting to be embarrassed 8 or 9-0.

Jaysus, looks like they are failing on this count:pac:

No Evra is not better. Surely you as a United fan have seen how poor he has been this season. Cole and Lahm probably slightly better but as you say not Lahm's best position.

Abidal no and Coentrao? Good young player but he's played 2 seasons in Portugal and a few good games in the world cup.

The fact is Eze was very condescending in the manner in which he dismissed Marcelo being one of the best left backs in the world when it is far from an outrageous remark.

    Assist from C.Ronaldo.

Plus 102 goals for Real Madrid in the league this season! They scored more than 100 last season too. Unreal.

Some record by Ronaldo now, unbelievable, near 40 years since someone scored 40 goals in a major league and it could be some time before someone does again.

    Well C.Ronaldo is still only 26 :D
    40 GOALS!!!

Absolutely phenomenal. Unreal. Out of this world.

I acknowledged Evra's poor form in my original post. Would I swap him for Marcelo however, even though Marcelo is much younger? Would I f*ck.
Abidal no and Coentrao? Good young player but he's played 2 seasons in Portugal and a few good games in the world cup.

Abidal has been one of Barca's best players, the man is a beast and has been consistently excellent over a number of seasons. He's far better than Marcelo

As for your argumnet about Coentrao, the quality of the league in which a player plays is not a good argument tbh. Its an insidious line of reasoning you can use to rule out players from most leagues in the world outside the big three tbh. If yur own club had used that logic they'd never have signed Meireles or United wouldn't have signed Ronaldo etc etc.
The fact is Eze was very condescending in the manner in which he dismissed Marcelo being one of the best left backs in the world when it is far from an outrageous remark.

It isn't that outrageous tbh, He's a good player who improved hugely this year. He's probably in the group of LB's below the guys I mentioned.

It's almost like the SPL with the two top teams just smashing everyone else every week.

Obviously on a completely different level.

Was that an Adebayor hat trick? Standard of the rest of La Liga is worse than we thought

    Ronaldo 66 in 63
    Messi 65 in 68

    Unreal. Both league stats.

Messi has 65 goals in 68 apps in the same period so it's hardly unheard of

And Big Ronaldo got 34 goals in 37 league games.

Another poster was pointing out stats from the past two seasons and you said "it was unheard of in the modern game"

    I was simply correcting you.

Both players are freaks of nature, unreal the pair of them.

When you see Ozil's sensational assist for Ade's first, you realise it's more to do with the quality of players at Madrid and Barca than the opposition tbh.

Standard of the rest of La Liga is worse than we thought

They were playing a side bottom of the league and long since relegated.

Who got a 1-1 draw incidentally in the corresponding fixture..

Unbelievable achievement by Ronaldo ,fantasy football.

Watching all his goals this season on Youtube it did strike me that alot of his goals were penalties (9),tap ins and generally simple finishes.
Very few of his goals involved him going on runs or taking on players which is surprising and he had acres of space for most of his finishes.
I'm not trying to take anything away from the guy as its an incredible achievement but I just though it strange that there werent more solo goals.

goal.com article on messi sulking. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3277/la-liga/2011/05/19/2493681/a-very-messi-problem-leos-sulking-gives-barcelona-coach-pep

so not plucked from corkmans ass as such.

goal.com is full of **** though so who knows

I just though it strange that there werent more solo goals.

He's not that kind of player though, he is a ruthless finisher, incisive and direct. You also don't need solo goals when you've got great players like Ozil, Di Maria, and Alonso setting you up. His penalties are also probably the best in world football at the moment.

    *pinches self*

40 LEAGUE goals in a season? Jesus. 40 goals in itself is extremely good, the top strikers in the world only hit early 30's tops most seasons, but 40 LEAGUE goals is astounding.

11 goals he's scored in the last 4 games when it didn't matter. Amazing feat all the same just thought that was interesting

A player of his calibre needs to be winning the league/CL in fairness. Two seasons with no big trophies isn't good enough for him.

Really sad to see Depor going, i remember the good auld days of the club with the great Roy Makaay

They wont be coming back up anytime soon with their financial stability not there

That win against AC Milan in the Champions League was epic. I can still remember Luque's left footed shoot that went into the near top corner past Dida.

That was a very dramatic last 15 mins or so. So many chances for them at the end, all of them spurned. Gutted for Valeron especially, very classy player.

Fúcking hell, Depor getting relegated. I still see them as a top team since they were one of the best when I first starting watching the CL.
