Does it really matter if you are in silver 2 or 3?

    Eh...what?!

He seems too focused on the division he is in what I'm saying is the focus should be on improving ones own level of play regardless of team mates.

    Oops, I misunderstood your comment.

Ironically, I'm currently in a promo for Silver II on my smurf. The difference between high gold and silver is noticeable. Especially peoples awareness, it's sadly lacking in lower elo unfortunately.

I'm stuck in silver on my main. Whenever I think of blaming my team mates I remind myself of all the people I know with smurf accounts, they generally get their smurf to much the same rank as their main after not too long. So it's not down to luck of the draw with team mates.

Riot talk LoL matchmaking and 'ELO Hell': most players guess their rating at "about 150 points higher" than reality

Isn't it just human nature to believe that you can do better? Also probably is the case more often than not. I'm Plat 2 for ages and haven't had time to play for a long time. It's unrealistic to think that I can get Diamond before s3 ends because you need to be in tune with all the small changes on each patch.

    or Korean

Today after school I was walking home and some of my students seen my from across the road. They asked me to go to the PC Bang (internet gaming cafe) with them for a game or 2.
I had talked about LoL a few times with students throughout the school as they are mental for it here in Korea.
The PC bangs are beautifully set up, lovely inside.
I only play lol casually, mostly ARAM or int bots etc, but one of my students is high Platinum, loads are silver/ gold
We were playing vs whoever and he was midland Zed and up 25-3 , sitting beside me, it was mental !!
I was Blitz support, didn't put too bad a showing in, but nothing like these kids.

It was a bit of a laugh to be sat with 4 of your students, 2 on either side in a row playing as a team :D

I agree with the fact that there is no ELO hell but sometimes there is nothing you can do in a game no matter how good you are when all other lanes are being outclassed. I'm always trying to improve myself and alot of it comes from experience mainly but i do believe i can make it out of Silver.

Plus it does matter what division I'm in. Being a high division than where you started gives a sense of progression and achievement. Like having all the best raid loot in an MMO, or your KD ratio in Call of Duty  Plus i want that Elise S3 skin :D

Don't count on it. You'll need a lot of luck to get good teams sequentially.

I'm stuck yoyo'ing between Gold 1 and Gold 2. Games usually end on someone out of position, initiating 1v5 or good old ignore everything and feed hard :)

Ive had a few games where I'm channeling as fiddle about to go into their entire team....and our team runs away. Same with Shen, when ulting a carry at the start of a fight...they see the ult, flash away and run (with near full hp) so you are completely out of the fight when teleported in. ''Like how are these people gold?'', i ask myself.

Finally made gold! Have been playing consistently well the last few days so it was bound to happen that i got matched with some decent teammates. Now that i have hit gold before the end of S3 it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. When Riot dangled that Elise skin infront of my face i just had to have it, even though i dont play Elise at all

I can actually play some other games now :D

Gratz, honestly wish I could be arsed playing ranked. Did my provisional games, played 3 ranked games and haven't played it since.

I don't know why but there's just something about playing ranked games that puts me off, I guess i just don't like that extra "pressure" when playing league... kind of weird considering I've played competitive CS for over 10 years !

I'm not taking away from your achievement of gold but its seriously easy to get it at this stage. Like i came back from holidays a fumbling moron, like I hadn't ever played the game and I got to gold 2 within about 5 days, 1-2 games a day.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,812 ✭✭✭IRL_Sinister

So I went back to LoL after not touching it for months. Got silver III after placement. Pretty pleased with that. Now I'm just working on being solid at all roles before specialising so I get a feel for everything and know how all lanes and roles work.

    Also, LOL

I can't say that's particularly fair to say that it's easy to get to gold and to presume if you can't you must be terribad. bit harsh if i'm honest (I've scraped gold V btw)

Sorry i'll try wrap you in cotton wool before I talk.

The amount of people that are like i'm amazing I got gold, when EVERYONE is going for it increases the vast amount of people that don't play ranked in the queue, and most of them are ****.

From 0 points in gold 4 to 79 points in gold 2. Silver 4 to Gold 5 in about a week, but was originally stuck high silver 3 for months!

And it's not what I think people need to hear, it's just what they're usually oblivious to. It doesn't happen much on here though, i'm still in league facebook page mode.

That reminds me, I never signed up for the LOL Irish facebook page. Do you think it's a good community to get involved in?

It's worth it if you're not that regular on it because they organise tournaments and some fun stuff. If you're on it regularly and don't like circle jerking then it's not for you.

It's filled with screenshots of ARAMs and normal games of people thinking they're whopper and then the circle jerk commences. (although I left about two months ago, it might have changed but I doubt it)

There are a lot of good players on it but none of them post often because people can't take advice unless they specifically ask for it.

You're acting like he was boasting about reaching gold, its a general chat thread, acting all "One-upy" is just being a knob. Kinda like going up to a weaker guy in the gym and saying.. "Thats light weight m8.. i can bench twice that nps.. fagg0t".

Wasnt boasting bro. Plus maybe alot of normals/aram players could be playing ranked doesn't make it any easier to hit gold from silver. Even if we assume that the normal/aram players are inferior to us master race ranked players it doesn't always mean that they will be on the enemy team thus making the climb easier.

I pushed from 0LP Silver 5 right to Silver 2 promo fairly quick, then jumped back and forth between Silver 2/3 for a long time. Sure my own skill will dictate how the game plays out but alot of it i feel is based on getting matched with good teammates.

I agree to be honest. Achievement in any endeavour is about commitment, intelligence, research, practice etc etc. Anything is easy if you have the time and inclination to work at it. Some people are casual players and for them achieving gold is difficult given the amount of time they can devote to the game. For others they have been playing the game (and games in general) for large amounts of time because they have had the opportunity. Dismissing someone's achievement because you found it easy without taking into account individual circumstances is a bit of an elitist and dickish thing to do. How about the same guy turns around and says "well fair play to you being so über on lol but i spend the majority of my day earning ten times as much money as you do". Context is everything and that's why it pays to be nice and make few assumptions about people rather than try and portray yourself as l33t because you have the time to devote to a game. I guess it all comes down to maturity though and people learn these lessons as they go through life

For anyone who was familiar with SC2, just read that MarineKingPrime has quit SC2 to play LoL

For those who don't know who he is, he was one of the best SC2 players in the world, known for his Micro skills and aggressive play, so it should translate extremely well to LoL. He's already Diamond
