I want to put fake external shutters on the windows of my house. Anyone know how I would go about it. I have looked at some suppliers but they only seem to provide PVC finished shutters and not alot of choice of colours. I want to install some that I can paint.

You would be better to go for the pvc type, timber used outdoors in this country does not survive.

I think you would need to speak to a cabinetmaker or carpenter as it sounds almost certainly like a made-to-order job. Are you looking for something like the slated louvered look you see on many Italian houses?

As for wood not surviving outdoors, that is not true if it is painted or treated with apprpriate products like Sikkens wood finishes and regular touch up maintainance is provided

I've a 103 year old house with original pine windows and door .. and they're fine. That said, it probably wasn't the rubbish they sell in Chadwicks
