Hell no! They aren't illegal mind you but because the Catholic Church still has some sort of grip on most people, especially those in power, there are no adult cinema's in Dublin and I doubt that there ever will be.

I'm not surprised though, sure even Peter Stringfellow's strip club on Parnell Street had to close due to protests and Playboy only made it back on our shelves in the late 90's after a lengthy ban and there was still a massive shít storm over that
Hardcore pornography, while legal in Ireland, isn't allowed to depict any acts which are illegal in the state. This also covers any participants being beneath the Irish age of consent. If any of these are in a video, DVD, film, photograph or website, use and possession of them is illegal.

In the 1960s, the Roman Catholic Church via Archbishop John Charles McQuaid lobbied the Irish government to have pornography banned outright.

The government-controlled IE Domain Registry currently has a ban on all pornography-related domain names. For example, the domains Pornography.ie and Porn.ie continue to be banned as they are considered "offensive or contrary to public policy or generally accepted principles of morality".

Didn't Stringfellows close because no-one went there, not helped by its crappy location?

For the few months that it was opened local residence were outside it every weekend night protesting with placards obviously putting potential punters off going in.

Plus the Deputy Lord Mayor at the time along with several politicians and councillors, lobbied for the clubs closure.

It was obviously doomed for failure from the offset.

Is there even a demand for adult cinemas these days? It's not the 1970's, porn of every variety is available on the internet in peoples homes. Why would anyone want to go and watch porn with a bunch of strangers in a cinema? Unless you're into that sort of thing and all :pac:.

Seriously though, I doubt there's any market for it anymore.

lets blame all our woes on the catholic church. There are at least two strip clubs in Dublin city centre. they are not welcome in some areas because residents object, so would I to be honest.

i can not remember much protesting about playboy to be honest.

Eh.. I can. Front page of the evening press, women standing around protesting. The same ones who protested when Virgin started selling condoms at the till. The catholic mindset was to blame for that one.

Someone said that Adult Cinemas were dated and out of fashion - i was only interesting in going as a couple for some "fun" there. It is common in Soho for people to do it in cinemas.

With regards to the failure of stripjoints = too expensive. Plain and simple

I love that, no sleaze on Parnell street. Love, the club isn't the only thing you'd want to go after!
