Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Turn on the computer and after the Acer screen dissapears keep pressing F8 until you get a dos menu, select safe mode and see does it boot up there.

When you get the black screen with the arrow you could also try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del to see if you can open task manager.

If you can click file -> run type explorer.exe and click run.

If this or fionnys suggestion work run a scan with the portable version of Super Anti Spyware

I'm presumming that the laptop is not getting into Windows though so these won't be of any use? Try going into safe mode - keep pressing F8 on start up.

The black screen with the cursor is windows loaded up to a certain point, sometimes the problem is the process explorer.exe will not run properly.

Sometimes the workaround will start explorer so its worth a try.

If you have a windows 7 dvd you could do a repair install without formatting also. But I would try the safemode first and the running explorer.exe

I cant enter windows on safe mode either (i assume you all meant safe mode as opposed to the other safe mode options) the ctrl-alt-del thing doesnt work either,

    is this a common problem?

fionny its windows xp i use,
thanks for the replies and any other advice is appreciated also

Hmm very unusual that it wont boot into Safemode either... I think something must have got badly corrupted, I would try a repair install if you have the windows xp disc see guide here:
